  • 2. Managing DW/OLAP Development & Product environment
Hi there, I'm implementing a development environment to streamline the release process of the development work. I've got the the test environment working now but I'm not sure how to keep the data upto date in the test system with production system. Basically I've restored the backup of the production OLAP db on to test server but now the data source is still pointing to production server rather than the test server. Also if I try to modify data source setup for each cube-partitions than I loose the addtional measures that have been created in the test sytem, Can anyone suggest an alternative for my problem? -- Regards, Vivek
  • 3. Time dimension changes AS2K to SSAS
Hi I'm trying to learn SSAS and I'm haveing big problems with time dimensions. In 2k Analysis Services, I simply created a Time dimension from a single date column in my fact table (e.g. Invdate which held a date/time field typically 30/07/2004). I could then select the time levels I wanted (year, quarter, month etc.) and the Wizard would happily generate a time dimension for me. I cannot find any way of doing the same thing inn SSAS without having to first create a table containing all the levels myself first. Is this true, or am I being incredibly stupid or missing something? It now seems to be incredibly difficult to create a time dimension where it used to be the work of a few minutes. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Another feature which has vanished is the ability to enter a Source Table Filter in the cube designer. Are all the changes from 2k to 2k5 designed to make everything more difficult, if not impossible?
  • 4. How do I calculate attrition and churn with MDX
I have inherited a cube and star schema at my company and need some MDX help for attrition and churn reporting. The cube is a daily snapshot of a production system as follows - it has a load date dimension with no <all> level. Each load date will give you current active customers and cumlative disconnected customers. So for a given date I can say we have this many active customers and all total have lost this many. The cube also has a "end date" dimension that will tell you when a customer left. So if they are active it is blank and if they disconnected I can tell which day (ie - Nov 2004 10,000 disconnected). They want to start doing attrition and churn reporting out of it. I can do it writing SQL fairly easy, however it of couse is not very dynamic. For attrition or churn I can grab the number of actives 30 days ago, however how can I get the number of disconnected since that day 30 days in past? I would need the 30 days of disconnected to change based on the load date. Thanks. Kevin Brooks

MDX - Pivot Table Questions

Postby Um9kcmlnbw » Sun, 20 Mar 2005 01:47:11 GMT

Hi Everybody:

I have only SQL Server 2000, AS and Office 2000... and i need to build a
customized Excel VBA system with drill-down & drill-up functionality from an
Analysis Services cube. I would like to avoid a lot of VBA/MDX program
code...so the question is: can i control Excel 2000 Pivot Table from VBA MDX
code?... i mean, to fill the PivotTable from a specific MDX query, remaining
the pivot-table functionality...

Another question... somebody know a good specific MDX newsgroup...

Thanks a lot...

Rodrigo

hi all !

3.MDX in pivot table

4.Pivot Tables and MDX

Include property Log File in your connection string.

Log File="C:\work\Sales_stock\mdx\excel_log\log.txt"

in log.txt you will find mdx queries.

into an excel pivot table that is hitting my cube. Up front, I'm pretty
sure this is not doable, but need to ask anyway. I want some way of hooking
into the MSOLAP provider to see the MDX that's generated and sent to
analysis services to retrieve the data into the pivot table. This would be
an excellent shortcut to getting my MDX query results to match what I'm
getting in the pivot table.
