writeback option

Postby Lianne » Fri, 10 Sep 2004 08:40:10 GMT

The books online and the analysis services tutorial state
that there is a writeback option available for the parent-
child dimension, but I don't see the writeback option
displayed on the select advancec options screen in the
dimension wizard. I appreciate if anyone could help with
this issue.

Hello Lianne,
I think this option is only available
for Enterprise Edition.

writeback option

I noticed there is no writeback option for sql server personal edition
version. I can't upgrade it to enterprise edition because my OS is not a
server.
Is there a way to add writeback option to analysis service of personal
edition?

You have to install Developer Edition. It has the feature set of Enterprise
Edition, but runs on non-Server OS' -- like Windows XP. It was targeted at
developers needing to develop applications but whom are not running on
server-class hardware (or running server OS').

1.Writeback Option in Analysis Services Tutorial

While working through the Analysis Services Tutorial, I do not see the
Writeback Advanced Option for the dimension that I am creating. Does anyone
know if this is an error in the tutorial, or something that I am doing
wrong? I have gone through the steps several times and can not figure out
what might be wrong. Obviously, I am a newbie to Analysis services.

2.Writeback option missing!

I'm going through the Analysis Services Tutorial. The first section under
Advanced Analysis has you use the Dimension Wizard to create Parent-Child
dimension with writeback capability. When I get to the "Select advanced
options" step in the wizard, there is no writeback option.

The tutorial also says that after you create the dimension, you can edit it
in the editor. There you should see an advanced property for the dimension
named "Write-enabled". I don't have this property!

Can anyone help?

3.Writeback Option Not Available

I'm just starting to learn Analysis Server and am going
through the tutorial to just get a feel for the product.
I'm trying to create a parent-child dimension using the
wizard and when I get to the point in the wizard for
advance options, it doesn't have the writeback option
there. What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

4.Writeback Option not Available through Dimension Wizard

I have begun to evaluate Analysis Services to replace our existing BI Tools.
I have begun by using the tutorial lessons and can not create a Parent Child
Dimension with WriteBack. In fact, the option is not available on the
Advanced Tabs.

I have gone through several iterations to get this to work:
 - Move Access Database to SQL Server
 - Check that user id has proper authority
 - Check that ODBC Connection is ReadWrite
 - Upgraded to latest patch
 - Gone to Edit Properties of Dimension to manually set Writeback

What am I doing wrong?

5.Analsis Manager Parent-Child missing Writeback in Select Advanced Options

Hello. I am working on an OLAP tutorial for Data Analysis in SQL
Server 2000. I have worked through nearly 2 full tutorials and came
across a problem. When trying to create a Parent-Child Dimension with
the wizard, I select the tutorial file and click Next. On the Select
Advanced Options step there is no Writeback option available. The only
options I have are: Custom Rollups, Members with data, and Ordering
and uniqueness of members. When I select HELP I see that Writeback
should be an available option for Parent-Child Dimensions. I recently
installed the Service Patch, would this have anything to do with it?

Any suggestions to why Writeback is not showing up?

Thanks,

Ryan
