  • 1. SQL Server 2005 Septermber CTP missing AdventureWorksDW and AS
Hello all, I have installed the SQL Server 2005 September CTP (the DEV). The sample databases AdvenureWorksDW and AdvenureWorksAS are not in the SQLDEV nor SQL Standard install. In the installer, I have drilled down. I have selected both databases. (Made the box WHITE, not a grey and not and X). I have selected both boxes. On size it says 'size 0 KB' for each. These databases are still part of the September CTP BOL tutorial for Analysis Services and Data Mining. I can not do the BOL tutorials without them. The lone database AdventureWorks is available in the 'SQL Server Express Documents and Samples' download (I have extracted and attached this database). However, the AdventureWorksDW and AdventureWorksAS are no where to be found. Does anyone know where to find these? Can anyone send me install SQL scripts or similar for these databases, so that I may do the tutorials? Thank you very much. Andre XXXX@XXXXX.COM -- AIM
  • 2. Automatic OLAP Cube and Dimenstions processing (Incremental and Full)
Hello! Is it possible to automaticly process the cube with new data available? Can I schedule this somewhere, where to look for this? At this time, I would have to make the full-process of Cube and all the shared dimensions, later I will do only update-process. Any hints on where to look for this, if it is possible. Thank you and kind regards, Dejan
  • 3. Cube processes successfully, but some records don't display
i have various Resource/Project dimensions and 1 fact table and 1 Time Period dimension The dimensions are Resource and Project Info. The fact table contains the keys and the resulting Actual Work and Scheduled Work the dimensions process successfully; the cube processes successfully, the database processes successfully, However, there are records that don't display in the cube I can see/query these 'missing' records in the fact table using Query Analyzer. I've verified offsetting records in the Resource and Project Dimensions Is there a valid reason(s) or conditions or situations why the records would be in the Fact table via query analyzer yet not show up in the cube? any suggestions on what to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.
  • 4. 16k/64k limit
hey i've seen the 64k limit firsthand; i was talking to him about it and he was like 'didnt they fix that in a service pack' it's totally still a limit right? is it gone in SQL 2005?
  • 5. OLAP Cube Performance Problem
Hello All, I have a cube with 14 flat dimensions (no levels); one of the dimensions has 1000 members. The cube has some calculated members. When I query the cube from Excel, and place 3 dimensions on the same axis, the response time is 65 seconds. This is unacceptable for the users! When I eliminate the calculated members the response time is slashed to 5 seconds. However, I can't eliminate the calculated members, they are vital for the application. Moreover, they are not complex: mere percent increases between years. Any ideas on how to improve performance? I would be very grateful for somebody's help. Thanks in advance, Jerome Smith

After Restore Database Sibling Members

Postby Luis Luna Contreras » Wed, 22 Oct 2003 03:02:29 GMT

Hi
I am using Microsoft Analysis Services 2000. I archived a
Olap database because I want to migrate it to a new
server. After I restored the database in the new server
and I tried to add a new partition of data but when is
proccesing the dimension part, I get the error: "Analisys
Server Error: Detected Two Sibling Members with the same
name" If I returned to the original server and I made the
same operation I don't get any error. Does any have a Idea
of what is happening? All the settings on both databases
appears to be fine.

1.SQL for Youngest Sibling or Only Sibling

Please Help...I've tried everything I can think of with no luck.

Given the following tables:

PERSONS table with a (unique PERSON_ID), SIBLING_ID, BIRTH_DATE, SURNAME,
FIRST_NAME

STUDENT_REGISTRATIONS table with a (concatenated key PERSON_ID,
SCHOOL_YEAR, SCHOOL_CODE )

I need to select students with a specific school_code = 'NORT' and school
year = '20052006' who have either no siblings (sibling_id will be null) and
youngest student of a sibling group (note surname may not be same as another
family member and there maybe twins having the same birthday.) All siblings
in the same family unit have a unique sibling_id.
For example:

person_id sibling_id birth_date Surname First_Name
1 20 1995-05-05 Doe John
2 null 1992-01-01 Smith Betty
3 20 2000-06-06 Doe Jane
4 20 1999-01-07 Doe Bill
5 30 1998-07-05 Twins Sally
6 30 1998-07-05 Twins Bob
7 30 1996-12-12 Twins-Not Sally

The result set should return (Note: min person_id of twins):
person_id sibling_id birth_date Surname First_Name
3 20 2000-06-06 Doe Jane
2 null 1992-01-01 Smith Betty
5 30 1998-07-05 Twins Sally

2.Detected two sibling members with the same name

I get the above error message when I attempt to process a
cube.

The error is caused by duplicate enties in the "Member
Name Column". I have checked that the "Member Names
Unique" is set to false, but setting this to false does
not fix the problem?

Does anyone have any suggestions or is this a bug?

3.Restoring databases on SQL Server 2000 while trying not to restore to the wrong database

Experts,

Running Windows Server 2003 SP1 with SQL Server 2000 SP4. I have a couple
of development teams using databases on the same SQL Server. While they can
backup their databases, they cannot restore their own databases. I have
noticed that the SQL server role overwrite the DB roles on each user
database. Users have to have DB creator permission in order to restore the
existing database. However, this role also grants users to ability to
restore DB to other users database's. Is there any way around this, so that
I could give my development users rights to restore THEIR OWN database but
not right to restore database created by someone else?

4.Member groups (>64000 Members) - how to extract Members by criteri

Hi,

I'm using Analysis Services on a SQLServer 2000 on Windows 2003.

My dimension 'accounts' has more than 250.000 members, so it contains
automatically created member groups (intervals) of accounts. In one of my
cubes, I've got a calculated measure which returns a boolean/bit value. This
measure is intended as an indicator and works fine so far.

Now I'd like to find the accounts where this indicator measure is TRUE/1. My
MDX works, but returns the affected account groups. That's no help; I need
the distinct account numbers where the indicator measure ist set. How can I
'expand' the groups into the distinct accounts that have an indicator value
of 1?

My MDX:
SELECT
	{[Measures].[Amount]} ON COLUMNS,
	{Filter(Descendants([Accounts].AllMembers,0,LEAVES), [Measures].[Indicator]
= 1)} ON ROWS
FROM
	MyCube
WHERE
	[Date].[All Dates].[2006-01-01 00:00:00]

Thx
Martin

5.Calculated Member - Current Member - Previous Member Madness

I have a tricky one here.

Basically I have the following, 2 dimensional output

               COL 1 COL 2
ROW 1 4 8
ROW 2 2 4
ROW 3 2 2

I am trying to find the syntax, or some workaround, for calculating COL 2,
which references COL 1(n) and itself, COL 2(n-1) to calculate:
COL 2(n) = COL 1(n) + COL 2(n-1)

I am trying to reference the PrevMember of COL 2 while generating COL 2.

I've tried generating a calculated member in MDX as such:
member [Measures].[COL2] as '[Measures].[COL1] +
[Measures].[COL2].CurrentMember.PrevMember', format = '#.##'

It just won't allow me to reference something I'm generating like this
on-the-fly. Makes sense. Is there any way to accomplish this with
calculated members, cells, anything?

I am using linear interpolation to estimate Percentile Ranks for Student
scores. The algorithm 'STARTS' here. Phew this is fun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

tx,
Tim
