  • 1. What does the <catalog name>.ODB file actually do?
Hi, Can somebody please explain what the <catalog name>.ODB file does? (its a small binary file that is created for each catalog in the Data directory of AS). If its renamed then when AS starts it simply creates a folder of the same name. If its deleted the existing cubes can still be accessed and its only recreated when the database is processed. However it appears to be critical to some part of the system as we have archived cubes from one machine and restored them on another remote machine but the restored database could not access one of the cubes. We assumed that it was something to do with service pack issues but both systems are on SP3. An internet search suggested a) that copy and paste of the database helps and b) copying the ODB file from the original server would also be a 'good' thing to do. Both solutions seem to work. Interestingly copy and paste creates an .odb file as part of its operation. So can somebody indicate what the *.ODB does and more importantly why does archive and restore fail sometimes. We are totally reliant on this technology for deploying pre-defined cubes. Regards David

Hi Belinda Thank you for that, it made very interesting reading. We hear alot from Microsoft about benchmark tests but its good to see some results from a completely independent source. The fact that even SAP themselves concur is very revealing. I'm going to make good use of this information at my company Thanks again Jamie Thomso
  • 3. Access OLAP from Novell Users
Hi, I built several OLAP cubes using the Microsoft Analysis Service. Our users use a Novell network (NDS 6.1). When I set up the security of the Microsoft OLAP cubes, how can I use the user groups created in the Novell network? Thanks

Has anybody use Crystal 10 with MS Analysis Service ?

Postby tristant » Fri, 30 Jul 2004 10:58:30 GMT

Hi All,

Has any body use Crystal 10 to access OLAP cube and integrate it into custom
application ?

I have tried that Crystal 10 can do drill down and slice-dice and even have
Cube View when I preview from Crystal Report development tool, BUT when I
integrate it into our custom application (with Crystal Print Engine API) ,
it just become static report , No drill down and slice and dice.

Does any body have any experience ?

Thank you,

3.Extra Super Urgent: MS AS 2k + Crystal Analysis 9 + Ragged hierarchies + ParallelPeriod

Hello, All!

I need urgent help. My project is almost successfully finished. But one
bug is still undecided.

Problem description:

Used technology: MS AS 2k + SP2 as OLAP server, Crystal Analysis 9 as

Cube: Contains several ragged hierarchies dimension and several measures
based on the ParallelPeriod function.

When I browse this cube with excel or MDX sample aplication all works
fine. But if I browse this cube with Crystal Analysis 9 I see only empty

When I use Data Browser from MS AS Analysis Manager I see in these cells

As I understood the problem is MDX Compatibility level. How can I
influence on this parameter (WHERE? on the server or on the client side
and HOW?). Maybe somebody
already solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

5.crystal reports 10 incompatibility with single quotes in SP

This code is part of a stored procedure in SQL Server, right?

I know Crystal does some strange (and annoying) things with how it views
database objects, but I can't see how it would have any knowledge of this
piece of code. Crystal, as far as I know, only sees the data structure(s)
that your query returns and should be unaffected by this.

Have you confirmed that the stored procedure itself is able to execute by
running it in query analyzer?
