  • 1. Consistent Backup Failures - Please Help
I am not quite a DBA, and this issue has me at the end of my rope. We have a large (150 GB) database on Win2K3 Standard Ed w/ SQL Server 2000. This backup takes over 8 hours to complete. Each night toward the end, our backup job fails with the following error: BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'F:\ourbackupfile.BAK'. Operating system error 33(The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.). For the life of me, I cannot determine what process is locking the file. I have tried executing the backup with the database in Single User mode, and it still fails. Are there any utilities that I can use to spy on the access to the file, so I can turn them off? ANY help is really appreciated. Thanks.

error opening table in Enterprise MGR

Postby UGF0Vw » Fri, 28 Jan 2005 00:47:03 GMT

I am getting an error message when I try to open (to view the rows of) any
table in any of the databases on a SQL 7 server from the server where the
databases actually reside- it says:
"An unexpected error happened during this operation. [Query] - Query
Designer encountered a query error: Unspecified error
This error is new; I am able to query and get results from the tables in
query analyzer and I am able to view the tables through Enterprise Manager
when I link to these databases from another computer. I restarted SQL server
without any luck. Do you think it needs to be reinstalled?

1.Enterprise Mgr. Won't Open

This is getting stranger. I tried renaming the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC to SQLServerEnterpriseManager.MSC, and it opens without any problem

What's that all about

2.Cannot open Enterprise Mgr

All of a sudden I am getting a "Microsoft Management Console has encountered
a problem..." error when opening EM. It has been working fine up til now, and
I've made no changes to system, etc.....

I replaced the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC file with one from my
laptop, which is identical, but this did not help. I can open other mmc
files, just not this one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is preventing me from doing
many tasks.

Thanks in advance,

4.Strange Error Messages in Enterprise Mgr

This one has me stumped. Please respond if you have any ideas on resolving
this strange behavior....

I am getting weird errors when opening DTS packages or when saving a
database maintenance plan in Enterprise Manager. We are running SQL Server
2000 with SP3. I created a DTS package with no tasks or conections defined.
I get the same two error messages on the machine running SQL Server and a
remote machine. The two 2 error messages are:

Error msg #1:
Error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Error Description: [DBNETLIB] ConnectionRead(recv()).]General network error.
Check you network documentation.

Error msg #2:
The Selected Package cannot be opened. The DTS designer has been closed.

I get the following error message when saving a new database maintenance
plan:

Error 0: This server has been disconnected. You must reconnect to perform
this operation.

I can create, open and save stored procedures and tables. The websites are
not displaying error messages. Query analyzer does not experience any
problems.
