I've configured a min. of two drives.. C and D.. we typically install the database files on d.. ie: d:\data\sql databases\instancenameshere When i run setup.. i let it pick the defaults.. then afterwards i change the default database path to D: Is there any reason NOT to do this.. IE: choose this path d:...\sql when i click advanced during setup.. and have the program files placed there too.. IE: master db's etc too.. What are most doing.. with multi logical drive letter installs? Cheers

Hi, I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express and ASP.NET Express. When I try to create and connect to a database file... I get the error message: Generating user instances in SQL Server is disabled. Use sp_configure 'user instances endabled' to generate user instances. What is it telling me to do? King
  • 5. What is better.. Static or dynamic memory allocation ?
I have gotten mixed comments on this topic. I have a 64 bit machine running 64 windows 2003 standard and 64 SQL 2005 standard with 8 GB of RAM. We want to upgrade it to 32 GB. What is the best approach to do this? Dynamic or Stattic giving min and max server memory a value ? and if static what value should I use for 32 GB knowing that this box is only being used for SQL.

Check your Server operations log book. :)

Seriously, check the Windows or WINNT folder for a file called SQLSP.LOG.
The file date and time is when the last SP was applied. Then go get a
physical log book and start recording every change to your system when it is
done.

1.SP3a not being applied to server

Hello all. I've downloaded and installed the sp3a to my
SQL 2000, however, when I restart the service the version
number is still 8.00.194 instead of .760. Its almost as
if its not recognizing the service pack. I've restarted
both the server and the service multiple times and still
nothing. I know its running the original version by not
only the version number in the registry, but also because
we are still having problems with the TCP bug that SP3a
fixes. Namely the 'no listening on TCP" bug.

Please help. I've tried everything. Thanks.

2.How to find cause of time-outs?

I am getting some .NET application exceptions saying the request to SQL
Server 2005 timed out. It is not always the same procedures that time out.
It is also very intermittent. How can I find out which SQL tasks are
running slow or to blame? I don't know where to look, what to log, etc.
.NET can't tell me more from its end.

"18:01:30 One or more errors occurred while running remote setup on the
clustered machines.

Active/passive cluster. active node is up and working. But I have only a 1
node cluster at the moment.
