  • 1. developer version
We have a SQL server standard edition. Our developers use trial version first. Now we bought developer version. can we just upgrade trial version to developer version without lossing information in the database? Where can I find more information about developer version? Thanks
  • 2. Blank Database
Using VS 2003, SQL MSDE Release A, MS SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Release A MSDE Installs correctly on a DELL computer named D32GCG31 with the following command line: Setup.exe /qb+ INSTANCENAME=CSOLUTION SAPWD=PASSWORD DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 CSolution subsequently appears in Services, and can be started and stopped. Then installed MS SQL Server 2000 Evaluation Edition Release A client tools only to gain access to Enterprise Manager (I know I need a CAL to leave this on the computer, I will remove it when I understand the what is going on). Question: In Enterprise manager, I can do a New SQL Server Registration for D32GCG31\CSOLUTION under the SQL Server group with no problem. However, under the Database folder, there is a database with no name, then the other databases (master, model, msdb, tempdb). I then attach the database that I use for my program with no problem. What concerns me is the blank database. When I try to detach it, I get an error, "The name '' was not be found in the database collection", so I cannot detach it. Why is it there? What do I do to get rid of it? The blank database shows us in Server Explorer in Visual Studio 2003 as well. Thanks! Bob Day

I am going to upgrade w2kpro sql server 7 PE to sql 2000 srd on w2k server.
I tried this but the local sql users didnt move over. Their permissions and
stuff didnt move. What i did was to attach the databases to the sql 2k and
it automatically upgraded them. Other then manually recreating sql only
users how do i get this fixed? (its on same HW so i need a workaround)

have two DataBases.

Database1
-Tables <- (with data and settings like Key and Constraints)
-Views
-Stored Procedure

Database2

my question is:

how can i move Views\Stored Procedure and the Table Settings like KEY
and Constraints to the Database2 and keep the Data in the Tables of
Database2

2.Setting up a Settings Table

I am creating an image gallery system, where there is an admin and
multiple users upload images. Each user is restricted to uploading 8
images. Currently, I have this hard coded into a trigger. I would
like it to use a table field instead... one that the admin can change
on the fly. I want to call this table Settings, but I want to create
insert 1 record, and then block all subsequent INSERT statements
(there's only going to be 1 setting) so that the Settings table will
only have 1 record in it for its entire lifetime. What's the best way
to do this?

3.us-en settings vs european settings

Hello

i have a program question

scenario

we have a server that is installed with european settings so today is
15/02/2006
however a connecting program expects US setting so today is 02/15/2006

so it runs in an error with the message that this is an invalid date .....

is it possible to force only one database in a specific localization mode
???

or is it possible to modify the programs connection string so it will
convert the data from European to US ???

Michel

4.Setting Device Information Settings for subscriptions

I want to set up a subscription for e-mail delivery of a
report in Excel without the document map as the first
sheet. I cannot find any a of setting this when creating
the subscription. Is there any way of doing it?

5.Moving file groups - Drop_EXISTING versus MOVE TO

Is there any difference between the following techniques for moving a table
across filegroups ??

-- Method 1 : Create existing index on a new group with 'drop_existing' option
-- -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Create unique CLUSTERED index [PK_tbase_Out_Tran] on tbase_Out_Tran (
aseOutTranId asc ) with ( DROP_EXISTING = ON ) on aseData;

-- This method works and does not require foreign keys to be removed

--METHOD 2 : use the new MOVE option
-------------------------------------------------
ALTER TABLE tbase_Out_Tran DROP constraint PK_tbase_Out_Tran with
(MOVE TO aseData )

ALTER table tbase_Out_Tran add constraint PK_tbase_Out_Tran primary key
clustered( aseOutTranId asc )

-- This also works, but first you must first drop the Foreign Keys and also
recreate the clustered index as another step. It seems worse than option 1
, but the syntax would imply that this is the 'correct; approach - eg MOVE
the table
