  • 1. SQL Server 2005 Does not see IIS
Hi I am trying to setup a development machine for Sharepoint development and am installing Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2005 and then MOSS on a virtual machine My original installation went fine and after installing Server 2008 I installed SQL Server 2005 with no problem. Unfortunately I then ran into other issues and restarted my installation from scratch. Now however during setup I keep getting the error that the IIS Service is not installed when it most certainly is and is happily serving web pages from the default website. Obviously there is something different from my original attempt and my new attempts but I cannot see what it is?
  • 2. sql wont uninstall
hi all, I have tried to uninstall sql server like 3 times now, because the reporting services was messed up. I constantly get error -2147024893 failed to read IISMimeMap table. then the uninstaller exits. I have tried the reccomendations of msdn forums, and stopped IIS before the uninstall, including ssl, but still no worky. IM running SBS2003Standard with sp2, and have sharepoint, uddi, sbsmonitoring, and rtc as other sql server (express?) instances. I would like to get Microsoft CRM installed, but I have to get SQL05 and Reporting installed correctly first. thanks for your help! george
  • 3. Uninstall SQL Server 2008 CTP5
I just tried to install SQL Server 2008 CTP5 (on a new Server 2008 Standard) but almost every function failed to install. Only Full Text Search installed without errors. Now I want to uninstall this SQL server but I cannot because the first install failed. Any ideas how to uninstall SQL Server 2008 CTP5? Thanks in advance. Peter
  • 4. SSEE : Network Service or domain user
My home office network consists of a Vista laptop , an XP laptop , and a Linksys firewall/router. I'm installing Sql Server Express Edition ( advanced package ) on my Vista laptop purely for personal development projects. If I install the SS services to run under the Network Service account , what problems could I run into later ? Should I setup a domain and create a domain user for the SS services ? How exactly do I create a domain in Vista ? And are there issues with an XP box participating in this domain ?
  • 5. can't connect to my SQLEXPRESS
After enabling ALL protocols in the configuration manager, I am still having trouble connecting using visual studio's server explorer to my local SQLEXPRESS service, which was installed automatically with visual studio 2005. The error i encounter while trying to connect, first says something about remote connections being disabled under default settings, and then it shows a 'Named Pipes Provider' error, which number is 40, saying that the connection could not be made. my computer is an Intel-based PC running Windows XP Pro SP2. any suggestions? thanks ahead.

Questions about MSDE and SQL 2005 Server Express

Postby Tony Girgenti » Thu, 28 Sep 2006 13:20:22 GMT

Hello.

I don't understand the SQL Databases.

I was once using MSDE of SQL2000(Server name = DHJC2R91). Since playing
with VWD, i downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition(It gave
me a server name of DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS). After that when i use the systray
icon with the little green arrow, it showed both servers.

I'm using VS.NET 2003. When i open the Server Explorer, i can see both
servers(DHJC2R91 and DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS), but when i add a new database to
the DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS server and then try to add a table to it, it lets me
create the table in the Database Design screen, but after i save it and
close it, it's gone. It just dissappears and does not show up under the
database that i added. If i do the same thing with DHJC2R91 server, it
works OK. The table gets saved.

When i look at the properties for each of the servers in Server Explorer,
the type for both servers says SQL Server 2000 Database. It also has the
same type for each of the databases under both servers.

When i look at the properties for each of the servers in Microsoft SQL
Server Management Studio Express, DHJC2R91 shows a version of 8.00.760,
Product of Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine and a Root Directory of
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL. DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS shows a
version of 9.00.2047.00, Product of Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition and
a Root Directory of C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL.

Does anybody know why i can't add tables to the DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS server ?
I can add a database, but not any tables.

I can add a new database and tables to DHJC2R91\SQLEXPRESS server using
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Also, can anyone offer any insight as to whether i have these servers set up
right. Should i have two servers ?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

hi Tony,

the VS 2003 are not completely compatible with SQL Server 2005 metadata...
AFAIK, you should use SQL Server Management Studio Express to perform that
kind of tasks..

Hello Andrea.

There is a warning that comes up when you try to add a new table
"Caution: New Database Features not Supported: You have connected to a
version of SQL Server later than SQL Server 2000. The version of Visual
Studio or Access that you are using was released before the version of SQL
Server to which you are connected. For this reason, you might encounter
problems."

That warning does not come up when i add a table to the SQL 2000 server.

I guess i should have realized the problem at that point.

Thanks,
Tony

2.Running Project Server with MSDE, WMSDE or SQL Server 2005 Express

Hi,

has anybody experience with Project Server 2003/7 running with the free SQL
Server edition.

I don't need Analysis Services. Up to which number of concurrent users does
the system work smoothly?

I'm aware of the database size 2/4 GB limit.

Thanks for any report from real life experience

Greg

3.SQL Server 7 and SQL Server 2005 Express question

Hi,

Is is possible to configure standard transactional replication if my local
distributor and publisher is SQL SERVER 7.0 and my subscriber is SQL SERVER
2005 EXPRESS?

4.From MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express Ed...

Howdy,

My company is setting up a new dedicated hosting server and we're debating
using the new SQL 2005 verse the MSDE. I'm not familiar with the new
version, so I have one big question:: Outside of the connection string, will
any syntax in my existing ASP.NET script/stored procs have to change to
support SQL 2005? Is the migration process painless?

I've searched MSDN but really can't find what I'm looking for.

Thanks,

5.Error in attaching a MSDE 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 Express

I'm trying to attach a MSDE 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 Express.

I simply issue sp_detach_db XXX where XXX is the name of my MSDE database.
Then sp_attach_db or create database ... with attach and both way gets the
following message:

Event ID. : 3415

Description: Database 'XXX' cannot be upgraded because it is
read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and
rerun recovery.

What does it mean?

Thanks for any help,

Peter
