  • 1. SQL 2005 Install Took Over 2000
    Have a box with SQL 2000 on it and tried to install SQL 2005. I've done this quite a few times and never had a problem, but for some reason this time it latched onto the SQL 2000 and upgraded it, or so it seems. Why would it do this. I even had it set to install into a completely different directory than the SQL 2000.
  • 2. Move transaction log to another disc
    Hi! We run Windows 2003 Server + MS SQL Server 2000 on ESX Server. We have the following configuration at the moment DBNAME: ME_Prod db_size 137155.19 MB Jan 21 2008 Status=ONLINE, Updateability=READ_WRITE, UserAccess=MULTI_USER, Recovery=SIMPLE, Version=539, Collation=Latin1_General_CS_AS, SQLSortOrder=0, IsAutoCreateStatistics, IsAutoUpdateStatistics ME_Prod_Data 1 D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ME_Prod_Data.mdf ME_Prod_Log 2 D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ME_Prod_Log.ldf ME_Prod_1_Data 3 D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ME_Prod_1_Data.ndf We are planning to add new virtual disc (let's say Disk G:\) and move the transaction log file to this disc. What is the easiest way of doing this? I thought about running this two commands from the Query Analyzer: 1) Shrink the log file_ USE ME_Prod go BACKUP LOG ME_Prod WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY go DBCC SHRINKFILE (ME_Prod_Log,0) go 2) Detach database: sp_detach_db 'ME_Prod' go 3) Cut and paste transaction log from D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ to G:\Log\ 4) Attach database: EXEC sp_attach_db @dbname = N'AdventureWorks', @filename1 = N'D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ME_Prod_Data.mdf', @filename2 = N'D:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Data\ME_Prod_1_Data.ndf' @filename3 = N'G:\Logs\ME_Prod_Log.ldf' Is this the correct procedure or I can create some problems if I do it this way?
  • 3. Get "credentials not valid" message installing SQL2008 Failver clu
    I'm attempting to install a Failover Cluster SQL Server 2008 on Windows 2008. I can't get past the Service Accounts screen. No matter what domain account I use (I've even tried a domain admin) I get the error "The specified credentials for the SQL Server service are not valid. To continue, provide a valid acocunt and password for the SQL Server service." I get the same message for the SQL Server Agent service. I tried using the Network Service, but since this is a Failover Cluster it is reuiring a domain user for the 2 services. Has anyone gotten past this?
  • 4. SQL Server Raid Settings
    Hello, I am currently migrating our existing SQL Server to a new server. The Server is an IBM X3650 quad core 2.66ghz 8gb Ram. I have two arrays using the internal controller (C:\ OS D:\SWAP) both as RAID 1 (I think I am ok with these). The server is used for a bespoke Point of sale/accounting application. The main database is about 80Gb in size. Attached to the server by way of an IBM MR10M SAS PCI-E Controller is an IBM EXP3000 external disk shelf, inside this are 10 drives (146GB 15k). I am going to set-up two arrays in RAID10 - One for the DB files, the other for the logs. With the last two drives as global hot spares. I am a little confused with the recommended raid/raid caching settings (I cannot seem to find a general consensus). Obviously I dont want the thing to go wrong once in production! 1. Should writeback caching be enabled? Is it safe to use on SQL SERVER 2000? The above controller has an onboard cache with battery backup, as well as parity checking. The server room is protected by a UPS/Generator. 2. What should the stripe size be set to? I have read on a few forums that 64k is best (8x8k Pages). It is currently set to 128k. 3. Should adaptive read ahead caching be enabled? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance
  • 5. SQL Server 2008 Setup Error for Analysis Services
    SQL Server 2008 installation fails for Analysis Services, while the other features show Success. So far, I have been unable to to install SQL Server 2008 Developer Ed. on my Dell laptop (32-bit, running Windows XP SP2) and on my Lenovo (64-bit, running Windows Vista Business SP1). Error during installation: The service could not be started. Reason: Service 'MSSQLServerOLAPService' start request failed. Has anyone else encountered this problem and what is the solution or workaround? :) Additional: Element shown at error point: ASConfigAction_install_postmsi_Cpu32 (32 for Dell, 64 for Lenovo), so it looks like this might be occurring during configuration. Message expansion info (which leads to detail for SQL Native client that does not seem to fit the circumstances): LinkID: 20476 Message ID: 50000 The Summary and Detail logs did not give me enough to go on. Going to try again without VS08 installed and capture some Event log info, if any.

SQL Sever error

Postby Aaron Shover » Sat, 19 Jul 2003 00:01:55 GMT

Ok, I just set up Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard
Edition. I have it on a server running Windows 2000
Server. I then put it on one computer running Windows
2000 Pro. When I open an Access database and I try to run
the upsize wizzard to convert the database into SQL I
click tools -> database utilities -> upsizing wizzard. I
choose Create New Database, pick the correct server, and
put in my loggin information, and click Next then I get
the following error:

Connection Failed
SQL State: '28000'
SQL Server error: '18452'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login
failed for user 'ashover'. Reason: Not associated with a
trusted SQL Server connection

Does anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks,
Aaron Shover

The server is probably in Windows only authentication
mode. Is there any reason you can't use NT authentication
to connect. If there is then it can be changed via EM from
Server Properties>Security tab (requires restart of the SQL
Service) or by editing the registry if you don't have EM

When installing SQL 2005 i received this error message:

SQL Server Setup has determined that the following account properties are
not specified: 'RSACCOUNT' . The properties specify the startup account for
the services that are installed. To proceed, refer to the template.ini and
set the properties to valid account names. If you are specifying a windows
user account, you must also specify the password for the account.

I've searched and can not find anything about this. Could someone enlighten

Hi, save this code into a .bat file and execute it (reconfigure wmi)

@echo on
cd /d c:\temp
if not exist %windir%\system32\wbem goto TryInstall
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /kill
if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q
rename Repository Rep_bak
for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i
for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i
for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i
net start winmgmt
goto End
:FixSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv
%1 /RegServer
:SkipSrv
goto End
:TryInstall
if not exist wmicore.exe goto End
wmicore /s
net start winmgmt
:End

If it doesn't function try to reinstall wmi with this code (copy
into .bat file)

%SYSTEMDRIVE%
CD %windir%\system32\wbem
Mofcomp.exe cimwin32.mof
Regsvr32 /s wbemupgd.dll
Regsvr32 /s wbemsvc.dll
wmiprvse /regserver

Bye bye
