  • 1. Downgrade from Enterprise to MSDN
Hi, I have a couple of questions around licencing. I'm new to SQL Server and am having a hard time tracking down product keys and licence types in the servers. 1/ How can I check if an instance has been installed using an MSDN licence? I can see version, type(enterprise vs standard) etc but cannot find a reference to MSDN. I've taken over from someone and need to be sure what I can do with each instance from a licence point of view. 2/ Is it possible to change the licence used from Full Enterprise to MSDN Enterprise. I've got a full enterprise server which no longer has a use, rather than just delete it I was going to convert it to use MSDN licencing so I had a ready built test db. I found the "Edition Upgrade" wizard in installation but I'm not sure where to find the product key since it's built into the install exe. Thanks

Try a web search?

Live Search for
    0x2B22 SQL site:microsoft.com
gets 8 hits, most on forums.microsoft.com

Searching there yields the suggestion to post on

SQL Server Setup and Upgrade

Searching there for
    (MSFT OR MVP) install error
yields many hits.

Here's one which lists some diagnostics that might be helpful generally.

 http://www.**--****.com/

BTW usually you will find more expertise on the diagnostics required
to help analyse your symptoms on a newsgroup which specializes
in the product being updated. This makes sense especially if the symptom
still occurs when you try a manual install of the update, since then the issue
as related to WU is at most the packaging of the update, not its deployment.

Good luck

Hi,

When installing SQL 2005 SP2 components, it always fails on
Hotfix.exe. Any ideas why this is happening?

Appreciate the help.

3.service pack on windows server prior install sql server 2005 standard

I am preparing to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on a Windows
Server 2003 that came with Small Business Server Premium Edition. The
server will be used for developmental purposes only. The server only needs
to provide data through SQL Server. No security issues are to be
considered. Before installing SQL Server 2005 Standard, do I need to even
bother with any service packs? I ask this because the Small Business Server
Premium SP1 includes separate service packs for Exchange Server and
SharePoint Services, which I will not even use.

4.service pack on windows server prior install sql server 2005 stand

I would recommend that after you install SQL Server, you install SQL Server
2005 SP2 with CU 4. This has all the latest and greatest bug-fixes since the
release of SQL Server 2005. (It's always good to be safe then be sorry)
