  • 1. cannot install SQL Server 2005
I was trying to install SQL 2005 Express Edition on a 2003 sp1 enterprise server stand alone. Now this is a clean install with sp1 on it and .net 2.0 fresh from the net. Now i can go through the install and when i get to the SQL Server Databse Install it fails saying that the MSQLSERVER service could not be started. I was using a local system admin account with full control permissions and it would not allow me to start the service. I looked through the SQL logs and it had an error 1076. I tried starting it manually and it said the service started and then stopped because it didn't have any work to do. But it needs to be started for the install to complete. So i figured i would wipe the server and connect it to the domain to try and put a domain account and see if that was the issue well it failed at that same step again and i manually went through and set the account to log on as the domain admin account that was part of the admins, domain admins, and enterprise admins an it still failed to start. I am actually really lost by this i have tried a lot of things but nothing seems to work. i have look through this newsgroups and MS support and can't find anything else to solve this issue.I even tried through a virtual PC program to see if that would work just for the hell of it and that didnt work either. I don't know what is wrong. any help is appreciated.
  • 2. Enterprise manager shows no items.
Hi, I've just installed SQL Server. The Query analyzer works fine showing all the objects in the server group but the Enterprise manager takes a very long time to load then displays a server group but with no items in it. There are definitely databases in there (Northwind at least) so why do they not display. Thanks very much for any thoughts on this Regards Ant
  • 3. Uninstallation of SQL Server Express Edition CTP
Hi, I wanted to install the RTM bits of VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I had installed VS 2005 Beta 2 and SQL Server Express CTP on this machine. While unistalling SQL Server 2005 Express edition, I did the horrendous mistake of not uninstalling in the right order. As a result, what happened is that the SQL Express windows service still exists, while the uninstall option does not exist in the Add/Remove program list. So, what is the solution to remove this? Will the VS Uninstall tool help here? Anything I can do manually, or is a re-install of the OS itself the only option in my case? TIA, Manoj G

I have been trying to install SQL2k5 on a VPC with XPSP2 and all hot fixes since SP2. It trys to install the .Net framework 2.0 and I receive an 193 error. After the first time I received this error I manually installed the .NET framework, but I still recieved this error. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Environment: Development box
OS: Windows Server 2003 32 Bit
Framework 3.5

I recently uninstalled SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 and
SQL Server 2005 Express from my development box.

after re-booting the server, I then removed all registry nodes for Microsoft
SQL Server and all physical drive folders where SQL was installed and
re-booted a 2nd time.

I used a legal Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition media to perform
an installation and got an error.

I opened SQLSetup0001_<Servername>.txt and found the following:
