  • 1. "[DBNETLIB]SSL Security error" with NO PROTOCOL ENCRYPTION activat
Hello, My configuration : - The client : Windows NT Pro SP4 with all security patches, - SQL 2000 client & tools installed correctly, - MDAC 2.8 installed correctly. Since few weeks, I have a problem to create an ODBC Data Source (System DSN) alias and therefore can't connect to my SQL Server 2000. When trying to create a new connection from client Windows NT using ODBC SQL Server driver the following error displays : [microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(SECCreateCredentials()) .. [microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SSL Security error Nobody has modified the client Setup. The SQL Server 2000 is running since many years without any changes. I can reach (ping) my SQL Server. An the best : client parameter "Force Protocol Encryption " is always disabled. My ODBC connection works fine with another SQL 2000 Servers. I've tried to uninstall/install SQL 2000 Client & clear the registry, run MDAC Component Checker, .. without success. I'm keeping on searching but if any ideas .. THX. Patrice HERMINIE.
  • 2. MSDE multi processor system posible?
One of my clients has a 4 processor Server free (probably Windows 2000 Server). My application ships with MSDE 2000 SP3a. Will MSDE install and run on this system. ? And if it does, will it use more than one processor? Is there an extra step to do ? Thanks
  • 3. SQL Server in Accounting 2006
I have Office 2003 and have installed Business Contact Manager. Had no problem sending and recieving at that point. Received Small Business Accounting and installed that. The installation included MSSQL service Manager. Since that installation, I can receive all email but cannot send any email longer that about two lines. Is the MSSQL mgr causing this problem and what do I need to do to overcome this problem. I am on a home network with 4 other comuters and have Office 2003 on a laptop and have no problem sending email from that computer. I have not installed the SB Accounting program on that computer so feel that the problem is associated with the MSSQL mgr.

I'm experiencing a problem with Microsoft SQL Server Migrator Assistant. I want to migrate an Oracle 8I on SQL Server 2000. The tool seems to work fine with regard to schemas, but when I attempt to migrate data I get the following error: "ORAOLEDB.Oracle error: The command was not prepared". An error is raised even if I use the MSDAORA provider. Thanks. Floriano

Cannot install SQL Server 2008 Developer - Restart required

Postby bWttaWtl » Fri, 21 Nov 2008 02:30:02 GMT

I have tried to install SQL Server 2008 Developer (MSDN download) on my Vista
Ultimate SP1 PC. On the initial install, a hotfix to Windows Installer (4.0 -
4.5) successfully installed with a restart. After that inital restart,
whenever I try the SQL Server install the pre-checks fail on the basis that
the PC needs a restart. I have tried this immediately following a restart
sevarel times and the 'failed' result is the same. What is causing this? How
can I get this installed?

Try the following steps:
Go to Control Panel -> Programs & Features choose Microsoft SQL Server 2008
and click Change then proceed. It must continue setup and complete it so
you'll probably get rid of that failure.

There is no reference yet to SQL Server 2008 Developer in Control Panel to
get to change. The install simply does not get that far. Indeed, when the
check fails on restart, such installation that has happened is rolled back.

2.Cannot Install SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services on Windows 2008

I have not been able to install SQL 2008 Enterprise x64 Reporting Services on
Windows Server 2008 x64.

First, I tried to upgrade the OS on my development server that was running
SQL 2008 on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008. The upgrade worked
but I could not get Reporting Services to run (I'm not certain if RS was
working before the upgrade). Next, I tried installing a brand new instance of
SQL 2008 on that server and everything installed OK except Reporting
Services. It could not start the necessary services.

Then I tried rebuilding the entire server from scratch, installing Windows
Server 2008 Enterprise x64 and then SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x64. Once
again, everything installed EXCEPT Reporting Services. Once again, the
services would not start.

During the install and after it, running the System Configuration Check does
not produce ANY errors. Everything passes.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on with Reporting Services? I've
tried everything I can think but cannot getting reporting services to start.
And I have not been able to find any helpful information on the internet. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

3.sql 2008 setup requires restart

I have SQL 2005 installed and I installed SQL 2008 express a few months ago.
This week MS update told me I needed to patch SQL 2008 but the patch refused
to run because my computer fails the restart test. No matter how many times
I restart the computer the setup claims that my computer must be restarted
again. Next I tried to remove SQL 2008 express since I don't use it anyway
and I got the same problem.

where can I fix the restart flag that is triggering this problem.

5.Recommended install order SQL 2008 Developer, Visual Studio Pro 2008

Is there a recommended installation order for SQL 2008, VS 2008 and their
service packs?

I thought I read something about problems with these two products.
