  • 1. SQL Server Un-Install Problem
Hi Everyone! I installed SQL Server 2000 on my machine about 6 months ago. The other day I decided to uninstall for various reasons. The uninstallation completed correctly. The problem I am having now is that the majority of my hard drive is showing as full. I have a 40 G harddrive and before uninstalling SQL Server 2000 I had 30 G left. Once I uninstalled it I am showing 6 G left. I have not added anything to the computer since and I am wondering where all my drivespace went and how do I get it back? Any ideas anyone? Thank you, Kevin Markvenas

I am installing sql 2000 personal on a win xp pc logged on as administrator, i keep getting a previous installation created pending file operations on the machine. you must restart before running setup again. I have followed Q312995 and deleted them from all the control setings in the registry but it still does it every time i try and install. Is there anything else i can do. Thanks Nick
  • 4. SQL Server - "Provider Cannot be found" .... error
Hi Everyone, I have recently installed MS SQL Server Developers Edition onto my laptop. I have created a test table and when I attempt to "open Table" and "Return all rows" the error message "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed." appears. I have re-installed several times but this does not seem to solve the problem. I really don't know why this error is occuring. I have XP Pro OS and am running SQL Server 2000 Dev Edition. Does anyone have any ideas? Any input would be much appreciated. Many Thanks Ruth

1.Load codepage 1251 data into a codepage 1250 column

I have Russian source data (Unicode) which I need to get
into a varchar column with SQL_Latin1_General_CP1250_CI_AS
collation. I know the characters will apper screwed up
but this doesn't matter at this stage.

Further down the line, this data will be exported into an
ANSI text file (along with English and French
translations, etc) for loading onto a Russian customer's
PC. This will be input into an existing system that does
not accept Unicode encoded files. Hence, the Russian
characters will then show correctly.

I have tried a number of approaches but so far have just
ended up with a series of ? characters (dec 63). I can
bulk insert the data into a varchar 1251 column and check
that the ANSI codes are correct but I cannot progress to
getting the same ansi codes to appear in the 1250 column -
just the question marks and the odd one or two that do

2.Codepage problems in upsizing to MSDE in VFP8

Hi all,
I just upsized a database with its tables into MSDE and as the fields in the
tables include some icelandic letters they all come garbled out. Is there a
way to either change the codepage of the data in MSDE or translate the data
on the way out of MSDE? Which should not be a problem as the collation order
of the upsized tables were in all instances Icelandic.
I hope someone out there will lend me a hands in this.

5.Has anybody installed MSDE using AD Group policy?

I took the SP4 MSDE and tried to publish sql2000.msi to active directory but
it failed.

When I ran the MSI file interactively it complained about not finding the
default instance. Obviously setup.exe must set this property?

Anyway I used ORCA to edit the SQL2000.MSI and added an INSTANCENAME and
some other properties like SAPWD and the install went through. However I
used the word "local" for instance name and it seems the install created a
named instance called "local" rather than a 'default' instance.

Now the docco i read suggests that if INSTANCENAME is not supplied, MSDE
will install as the default instance. I have also seen posts suggesting that
the computer name is used as an instance name.

I haven't been able to find the magic formula yet to call SQL2000.MSI to
install to a default instance yet. Once I do this I will publish it to
Active Directory policy.

Can it be done?
