  • 1. Oracle and SQL
Hello all: I have a question. I am trying to setup Oracle 8i and SQL 2000 on the same server, and there are some problems communicating with Oracle. We currently have a similar enviornment setup, but this one includes the upgrade of SQL 2000 on Windows 2000. I was able to connect to the Oracle database prior to the SQL install, but now I am not able. The ports I have configured in the Oracle world are 1521. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brad
  • 2. Can not reinstall SQL 7.0 desktop
One of our computers was running SQL 7.0 Desktop. Our company reciently upgrade to a Active Directory. In the process, the computer was renamed and now the SQL 7.0 Desktop will not work. Nor is there an option in Add/Remove programs to uninstall it. When I try to reinstall, it says that there is a previous version of SQL 7.0 please uninstall it. Question: How do I go about removing the old installation with out it being listed in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Thanks, Sam Berry
  • 3. Automatic Delete of Transaction Log Backup Files?
Using Enterprise Manager in SQL 2K, I defined a backup plan that performs a full database backup each morning at 2AM. This backup plan also defines that the transaction log is to be backed up at 06:00, 12:30, and 18:30. The retention period on the database backup ( . BAK files ) is set to three days. The retention period on the transaction log backups ( .TRN files ) is set for three days. The text reports ( .TXT files ) also have a three day retention period. The BAK and TXT files are being deleted properly when the maintenance plan runs. However, the TRN files are not being deleted. I am having to go in a couple of times a week and manually delete the old transaction log backup files. The maintenance plan is named "Database Maintenance Plan 1" but the TXT files have names that refer to "Database Maintenance Plan 14" and "Database Maintenance Plan 16". I'm stumped as to why the TRN files are not being deleted. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Charlie Miller XXXX@XXXXX.COM
  • 4. SQL 6.5 Sp5a
I am trying to install SQL 6.5 SP5a on a Windows 2000 AS and keep getting the message: "Setup Initialization could not be completed successfully. ISQL.exe could not be executed. Please check the relevant .out file." I checked all the .out files and find no serious errors. I've restarted and tried again about 4 times with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1.SQL Server 2005 Express with SQL Server 2005 Standard install

Hi I recently finished my application using
Visual Basic 2005 Professional and MS SQL Server 2005 Standard.

However, I have a new project at hand that I haven't done before.

I need to write an application that is portable installed in laptops that
will not connect in the network. Basically, this application is only use
when the main program server fails due to disaster or what not. I work for a
medical group... the doctor needs to view the patient's medical records while
the network or remote server is down. My questions are the following:

1) Can I install Microsft SQL 2005 express with my Microsoft Server 2005
in my developer computer?

2) How can I update the embeded database once the custom application is
installed in laptop without using any network connection? Can the database
be embeded an automatically be updated using msi (Microsoft Installer).

3) Do I have to install the Microsoft SQL 2005 express to each target
laptops?
I cannot use any networking connection because this application is for
disaster situation when network is down and should be stand alone. My boss
vision is to have this application with current data be installed to the
laptop with one click that any body can install without help from tech
support.

I appreciate any feedback from the experts.

Sincerely,
Judith

4.Install SQL Server 2005/2005 express data to different drive

Hi,

I need to install 2005 and 2005 express and have the databases going
to a different directory. In SQL Server 2000 this is perfectly
possible, but I don't get any such option during the installer of
2005.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

5.install BCM fails on installing SQL Server 2005 Express

I have upgraded Office 2000 Pro to Office 2007 Pro on WinXP Pro and now want
to install BCM.

First problem: DVD2 doesn't autorun, so I ran setup.exe manually, which
resulted in error "failed to install the required component MS SQL Server
2000 Express (MSSMLBIZ).

The log location mentioned gives the following information:

Machine : <my machine>

Error : SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on
service MSSQLServerADHelper for user <my user>. To proceed, verify that the
account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running
SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that exists on the
destination drive.

followed by a few more error messages.

I have administrator rights (I am the only user on this machine) and I even
tried to remove my password, I have tried a different install directory, but
I can't get past this issue.

What is weird is that the error message wants me to check for existence of a
file (?) but fails to mention what teh name is.

Please anyone help me get past this error

Thanks
