  • 1. regular user's command being owned by root
I posted this yesterday with a subject line that turns out to be off topic. So I re-post. I have a problem where processes (or perhaps the *first process*) are being run as the root user even though they were started by a normal user. For example, I'm logged in as "sdeal" a user belonging to the group "staff". I issue the command "ps -ef | grep root" .... this is a snippet of what I see. sdeal 15974 15874 0 17:06:20 pts/3 0:00 grep root root 15973 15874 1 17:06:20 pts/3 0:00 ps -eaf I've created other users using the admintool, but this behavior remains. Can anyone explain what might be going on here? Thx
  • 2. pthread_mutex_timedlock
I'm running Solaris8 and am porting a C++ application that uses pthread_mutex_timedlock. It's coming up as an undefined reference when linking. I've checked the pthreads.h header file and it is not there either. Does Solaris8 not support pthread_mutex_timedlock? Thanks in advance for any info you can shed on this problem. Randy

  • 4. use seperate controllers in a v480 for vxvm
I have a dispute with a colleague and we're now turning to comp.unix.solaris for some mediation. I've configured a v480 with SOlaris 8 and encapsulated the root disk with Veritas Volume Manager. My co-workers says I've done it wrong because I should have them on seperate controllers. # vxdisk list | head DEVICE TYPE DISK GROUP STATUS c1t0d0s2 sliced c1t0d0 rootdg online c1t1d0s2 sliced disk01 rootdg online I think this is a non-issue since a controller failure will impact the entire system. Anyone care to weigh in on this? -Monty
  • 5. Mozilla 1.4 and JRE Pllugins
Does Mozilla 1.4 support multiple JRE plugins? I'd like to have both JRE 1.3.1 and 1.4.1 installed (to be called separately using EMBED flags). Also related, does Netscape 7 / Mozilla 1.0.1 support JRE 1.3.1? When I link to the sparc/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so file, my applet fails to load, while it works with the JRE 1.4.1 file. Thanks, Daniel
