  • 1. in.ftpd timeout
I have a cooworker who keeps getting booted off a Solaris 8 ftp session after idle time. man ftpd says default is 15 minutes, but can be adjusted with the t switch. A the end of inetd.conf I put in.ftpd -t 3600 and kill -HUP'd the inetd process which should have changed it to 60 minutes, but the timeout isn't changing. What am I missing? thanks, Hal
  • 2. Blastwave's Xine for DVD Playback
Hi, Has anybody used Xine from Blastwave to play DVDs successfully? I'm having problems doing so........ Press the 'DVD' button, DVD whirrs a bit and then get the following error message in Xine: "The source can't be read. Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data {E.g: No disk in drive) (Error Reading DVD)" Pressing 'more' gives a load of successful 'module found' messages and only the following with error: audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type 04000000 audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type 02000000 I've checked the permissions on the mount in /vol and it's fine and i can read the disk. Other than that, i'm a bit lost........any ideas? System is Blade 2000, Solaris 9, XVR-1000 Cheers Ade

Can someone explain what "tcpRimretrans" is? This is one of the parameter listed by the command "netstat -s" under TCP section.
  • 4. slow file writing with solaris
I'm migrating a software from W2K to Solaris. I'm surprized to see that sequential writing (using fopen/fwrite functions) is 6 time slower than W2K ! The open/write functions seems to be faster but it's to must change int the program ... Does someone know how to incrase fopen/fwrite functions speed ?

You didn't post the System or OS you're running, but this is a SUN group
so I'll go with that.

Is this an internal disk? What about opening up the box and reseating
the cables?

Can you see the disks at the OBP? What happens with scsi-probe-all?

Have you tried checking for external SCSI cable length?

If all this doesn't do much, how good are your backups? It might be
time to get them out along with the Solaris install CD and replace that
disk...

Probably the sd1 (2nd internal disk) is broken.
Another possibility is that sd1 must be forced to single-ended by means
of a jumper on the disk.

SCSI Transport failed

Postby AlbZ » Fri, 05 Jan 2007 16:19:21 GMT

Hi,

I am getting an error message " SCSI transport failed- retry cmd". I
think that my hard disk is going to die. Is there any solution for this
other than replacing the hard disk. As I restarted my machine the
frequency of getting the error has been reduce. Please advice on this.

Albin

Check your cabling and termination.

Make sure you have good backups.

3.Help: Problem with backup, scsi transport failed

Hi,
I got a problem on my backup server again and need help. Thanks in
advance.

The backup acted weird today while I was replacing the tape. At first,
I could not remove the volume index out of the pool. After I fixed
this problem and tried to label the tape. It gave me the error on each
tape, said that bad file number. I have successfully finished labling
three tapes. At the fourth tape, it took more than half an hour, but
was still not done. So cancelled the operation of labeling. The
problem happened during the cancelling. The scsi error occurrs, had
the error message: Read open error, I/O error. The autochange stops in
the middle of the CY-TL8-2015 tape library subsystem. The light is
green for the autochanger. Then I opened the door, found the tape is
still mounted. After close the door, the light of the autochager stay
in red. Then I checked the log file , have some error messages like
this:

Sep 27 17:32:17 beverly unix: SCSI transport failed: reason
'timeout': giving
up^M^M
Sep 27 17:32:17 beverly root: Solstice Backup media: (warning)

t)
Sep 27 17:46:05 beverly unix: NOTICE: lus_intr(1.1.0): transport

The server is running SUNOS 5.6 with RAID 5 external hard disks and
backup file is solstice 5.1.

I have checked the /kernel/drv/st.config. Nothing was wrong there.

Any suggestion?
