  • 2. Veritas failing a disk in an A5200?
I have an Ultra 3000 with a pair of A5200s hanging off it, using (I presume) VxVm 3.5. I believe the array is multi-pathed as this array is shared by another machine, however the other machine can't see the failing disk I'm seeing here (using vxdisk list). I can tell from vxdisk that there's a hot spare in the array that I can move the data onto. When I run vxdiskadm, do I want to use option 6) mirror the failing disk onto my hot spare, then remove it? Or should I select option 4) remove a disk for replacement, and then VxVm will automagically prompt me to move the data off the disk? (snip) c5t96d0 A1_f0 ad1 online c5t97d0 A1_f1 ad1 online spare c5t99d0 A1_f3 ad1 online c5t101d0 A1_f5 ad1 online failing Any suggestions? I'm very new to VxVM :( TIA and HAND, Chris

Battery in A3500FC

Postby sunsystem8 » Wed, 26 Oct 2005 10:43:53 GMT

I replaced the battery canister (added refurbished unit which we
purchased from the web) in A3500FC unit and ran raidutil command to
reset the date and it says

Battery age is between 0 and 90 days!

But when I am looking at battery canister I noticed Amber light on
Fault A and on Fault B. There are no lights on Fully Charge A and B.
It has been two days since we replaced the battery.

Does this mean the battery is bad as there is Amber lights ?

Any help will be appreciated. We do not have contract with SUN.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Yes, it's bad. May I ask _why_ you're using a piece of equipment that
requires yearly replacement of a component, is most likely critical to
your storage, and it's not on contract? Do you even bother backing it
up?

<SOAPBOX><RANT>
I'll never understand why some companies are penny wise and pound
foolish, buying expensive equipment and no support contract to replace
it, relying on chicken wire, chewing gum, eBay, and an admin with lots
of free time to fix their mistakes.

Replace the battery. Take a look at www.elite-management.biz. We use
them to support all our out of warranty sun equipment and the price is
excellent.
