  • 2. Any connection between chargen and ftp/telnet services in Solaris 2.6?
Has anyone experienced this strange problem? At least it seems very strange to me. Yesterday, I shut down the chargen service in a Solaris 2.6 box by commenting them out in inetd.conf. Immediately I was not able to reach the box via either FTP/TELNET. After connecting the serial port and bringing the chargen services up, I was able to FTP/TELNET to the box remotely once again. I am wondering if there is any connection between chargen and telnet/ftp? Seems like nobody mentioned this kind of thing before. I did the same in Solaris 7, 8, 9 and even 10. All the FTP/TELNET services work well after shutting down the chargen services in these versions. This problem only happened in 2.6. Is it a bug in Solaris 2.6? Thanks in advance! Sean
  • 3. ssh batchmode fails auth on sun cluster 3.2 scinstall
Solaris 10/06, all patches. Using: ssh root@zone1 -o "BatchMode yes" always fails with "authentication fails". I can post the debug if anyone would like to see it. In a nutshell, on both zones I ssh'd (non-batchmode) from host to zone1, no problem. SSH automatically gen'd the keys in /etc/ssh/... for each host. I also did a ssh-keygen -p and added both null and password keys (not sure if it saves both) to the /.ssh dir and added both rsa and psa(?). But then tried a login each way on each zone. STILL fails. Tried it with bash, sh, and /bin/sh and /sbin/sh, no luck. Basically I'm trying to do a null-pass-key auth between the two boxes, but am having an awful time. This is part of the cluster install script scinstall that uses batchmode, full text of command: ssh root@zone2 -o "BatchMode yes" -o "StrictHostKeyChecking yes" -n "/ bin/sh -c '/bin/true; /bin/echo SC_COMMAND_STATUS=\$?'" Permission denied (gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with- mic,publickey,password,keyboard-interactive). ssh to "zone2" failed. And last q: diff in Solaris 10 SSH between the keys in /etc/ssh and /.ssh ? I think I know, I'd just like to hear it from somebody else

Re: Installed Directory Server 5.2 P4, but 'directoryserver -l' doesn'tshow version

Hi,

When I type just "directoryserver", I get:

Usage: directoryserver
	   -setdefaultversion | -d <version>
Usage: directoryserver
	   -getdefaultversion | -g
Usage: directoryserver
	   -listversions | -l
Usage: directoryserver
	   -useversion | -u <version> subcommand {options-and-arguments ...}
where options-and-arguments depend on the specific subcommand
Usage: directoryserver
	   subcommand {options-and-arguments ...}
where options-and-arguments depend on the specific subcommand

but again, when I try the -l, I get the error from my original post.

You are right. The -listversions option seems to be introduced from 5.1
to 5.2.

My command is working as expected:
# directoryserver -l
The following versions are available:
5.2
#

Is the server up and running?

Hi,

Yes, DS (slapd-sunny, in my case) is running when I did this.

I just did this (the DS 5.2 P4) install on another Solaris machine at
work. In this latter case, I cleaned out the DS5.1 files using pkgrm
before doing the DS5.2 installation, and still the same problem. I
looked at the directoryserver file, and it looks like it's looking for a
file in /etc/ds, but I don't have an /etc/ds directory in either case.

Very strange. I guess I'm going to have to start the DS components up
component-by-component for the time being (I'll be posting another post
related to this).

Thanks,
Jim

Robert,

I wasn't so much WANTING to find out the version of DS, but the problem
is that all of those "directoryserver ..." command lines don't work
because, for some reason, it can't seem to find whatever it's looking
for. I'm just wondering why, i.e., was there something wrong with the
installation.

Anyone?

[snip]

Is this your first install of DS 5.2 P4 and it is not working?

If so, I would just start over.

It took me 3 installs to get DS 5.2 P2 to a state where I could even do
basic authentication against it, and another 4 installs before I had it
properly configured as an NIS replacement using TLS.

That being said, installing/configuring DS 5.2 to be a complete
replacement for an existing NIS installation takes less than two hours
(including loading the NIS data), so if you are still banging your head
against the wall after a day, start over.

Neal,

I've tried the install (5.2 P4) on two different Solaris 9 systems, both
with clean Solaris 9 installations, and both exhibited the same
behavior.

DS itself seems to be working (I can access it via LDAP, I can start it
using start-slapd, etc.), but it's just the "directoryserver" that
doesn't seem to work (in both cases).

In both cases, I used "setup" to do the install, choosing "Typical".

Actually, though "directoryserver" doesn't work, I have slightly
different problems on the two installs.

In install "A", I just installed 5.2 P4 after doing the Solaris
installation. In this case, when I try "directoryserver ..." it tells
me that "no version available".

In install "B", I just tried deleting all of the DS 5.1 packages and
then installed 5.2 P4 (again, this was after a clean Solaris
installation). In this case, the "directoryserver" script seems to be
missing completely from the system.

I have a feeling doing the DS installation using "setup" instead of
"manually" is causing the problem, but at this point, I don't want to go
back and just try an uninstall/re-install, because the main reason I was
installing DS was because I have some other software that was needing to
use DS, and I've already installed that other software.

Afair the directory server command only exists after an installation
with packages. A script installation may not have the directory server
command.

Robert,

AHH, that (the "directoryserver" script not working or being created
when using "setup" to install DS) would explain a lot.

Thanks,
Jim

directoryserver does not have a -l option. Only as subcommand to an option.

2.Installed Directory Server 5.2 P4, but 'directoryserver -l' doesn't show version

Hi,

I just installed DS 5.2 P4 on Solaris 9. Since this is for a small
test, I did the install by running 'setup' and chose 'Typical', and it
seems to be working.

However, if I do:

   directoryserver -l

it says "Error: no version available"

Also, I cannot set the default version.

For now, I'm starting DS using the start-xxxx script, but I would like
to get the 'directoryserver' command to work.

Does anyone know how I can accomplish that?

Thanks,
Jim

3.directoryserver 5.2 dsimport

Has somebody used dsimport in directoryserver 5.2 ?

I don't understand this script :

#!/bin/sh

unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH
cd /var/mps/serverroot

lang=${LANG:=en}
while [ $# -ge 1 ]
do
    if [ $1 = '-l' ]
    then
        shift
        lang=$1
    else
        arg="$arg $1"
    fi
    shift
done
./bin/base/jre/bin/jre -classpath ./bin/base/jre/lib:./bin/base/jre/lib/rt.jar:./bin/base/jre/lib/i1
8n.jar:./java/base.jar:./java/jars/ds40.jar:./java/jars/ds40_${lang}.jar:./java/swingall.jar:./java/
ssl.zip:./java/ldapjdk.jar:./java/mcc40.jar:./java/mcc40_${lang}.jar:./java/nmclf40.jar:./java/nmclf
40_${lang}.jar com.netscape.admin.dirserv.cmdln.DSImport $arg

There is simply no ./bin/base/jre/bin/jre binary !
And no jre binary in any place.

What is the problem here ?

5.Directory Server 5.2 - adding entries

I recently imported a group of users into ldap via ldapaddent and a
password and shadow file. I would like to add the objectClass "person"
to these entries. I'm having problems with the syntax for the ldif
file. Here is what I currently have that is not working.

____________________________________________________

dn: cn=FirstName LastName,ou=people,dc=domain,dc=com
changetype: modify
add: objectClass
objectClass: person
-
add: sn
sn: LastName
____________________________________________________

I'm gettnig a return code of 65 which is:
LDAP_OBJECT_CLASS_VIOLATION: sent by Directory Server if the modified
entry does not comply with the schema.

>From what I can tell the schema requires two entries for the person
objectclass: cn and sn
I'm trying to add the sn and already have the cn? Thanks for the help.
