Possibly something itchy about which partition and cylinder number for swap?
Hi, I just tried to run the latest sol10 install, usualy i chose upgrade and off i go. But somehow b54 doesn't even offers me an upgrade install. Anyone else has that problem? -- Barbie - Prayers are like junkmail for Jesus I have seen things you lusers would not believe. I've seen Sun monitors on fire off the side of the multimedia lab. On Wed, 14 Apr 2004 14:28:26 -0400 Ok, hrmm, lets see downlaoded the isos from sun, software 1 and 2, i don't bother with the install cd, and don't need the languages. setup an installserver for them, added my system and booted from the net, install started, since no rules are configured, the normal install rutines starts, but never gives the option to do an upgrade install, neither does it checks if the system is upgradeable. Same happens when i boot off the cds itself. System is a dual cpu blade 1000. -- Barbie - Prayers are like junkmail for Jesus I have seen things you lusers would not believe. "Don't get an upgrade choice" usually points to something "interesting" about your boot environment.. Multiple boot disks? Multiple root partitions? Filesystems in /etc/vfstab that it can't mount? "unusual" ways of partitioning the OS ... I think any of those can confuse the installation program to the point that it's not certain that it has all of your boot environment available, so it won't offer the upgrade choice. -- Darren Dunham XXXX@XXXXX.COM Senior Technical Consultant TAOS http://www.**--****.com/ Got some Dr Pepper? On Wed, 14 Apr 2004 19:03:30 GMT Not realy, just mirrored boot disk, and the upgrade worked fine from sol 9 to 10 up to now. s0 swap s1 / s3 /var s4 /opt s5 /home since i run homes local on this machine -- Barbie - Prayers are like junkmail for Jesus I have seen things you lusers would not believe. On 14 Apr 2004 21:21:27 GMT Ahh! Ugh. I hope this means "not yet supported because this is a beta version". If Sun has given up on maintenance updates and the equivalent is to upgrade, and if upgrades of zones are not supported, then that would make zones pretty painful to use IMHO. - Logan

1.Unable to upgrade to Sol Express B54 on SB1000
I'm trying to upgrade an SB1000 from Solaris 10 3/05 to Solaris Express B54 with no success. The installer gets to the point where it is "Gathering upgrade information" and then a dialog pops up with the message: "Error!" "Could not reinitialize system state. Please exit the installer and restart the installation." Once I select 'Exit' a terminal window opens and I can try restarting the installation -- no joy. Any ideas? [It just occurred to me this might not be the correct place to ask this question -- if not, guidance will be appreciated.] Thanks, -- HZ

4.Solved! [was: Unable to upgrade to Sol Express B54 on SB1000]
Removing the entry for the second disk from /etc/vfstab but leaving the disk physically connected allowed the install for Nevada Build 54 to proceed to completion. The failure caused by the phantom /dev/dsk/c2* entry remains a Huge Freakin' Mystery. Thank you to James and Ian for valuable suggestions. -- HZ
5.Legato server upgrade (7.3.1 on Sol9 => sol10)
I have a strange problem upgrading our EBS server OS from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. The system has run almoust three years on Solaris 9 with EBS 7.x, currently 7.3.1. The hardware is V240 with SE3310 as adv_disk type cache and L25 with two LTO2 tape drives. About 150 clients. Now I broke the sol9 root mirror, and did full install of sol10 to the offbroken part. All fine, OS boots and works, but when I install and start EBS 7.3.1 (ie. 7.3 install and patches) on sol10, the nsrexecd processes newer go to backround (waited ~10 minutes) and so EBS boot script newer got past nsrexedc start. And according truss, the nsrexecd prosesses just sit idle, the first waiting for the second to write something back. EBS works still nicely if I boot the old sol9 partition. My guess is, that it is some kind of identity problem, but what? The new incarnation has same ip and name on same interface on same physical machine! EBS (client) starts fine on other sol10 machines. -- XXXX@XXXXX.COM , University of Helsinki, Computing Centre
