Hi Guys, Can anyone of you recomend me a tool that is designed to detect memory leaks and out of bound errors? Something like valgrind on x86 or -fcheck-memory-usage parameter of gcc (which is disabled at the moment). My system is: Solaris 9, Sparc Thanks for any help Cubanan

Hi, I would like to do some benchmark tests (SAN <=> local disks) on a solaris 10 server (V490) Any idea how I would get reproducable results for read/write tests, or does someone know a good benchmark software/script ? Thanks for your help uxtuner PS: my first idea was something like "time dd if=/dev/random bs=512 size=xxxxxx of=/dev/xxxx"
  • 3. Cert exam 310-202: how accurate is testking?
I used the testking practice exams on the first part of this cert, 310-200 and it seemed pretty good. The second part is throwing me for a loop tho as I keep seeing inaccuracies. For example, one of the drag and drops lists this fr jumpstart: sysidcfg - Contains information about the clients network interface, host name and IP address /etc/bootparams - Associates classes of clients with specific installation paths /etc/ethers - Ethernet to hostname database used to answer RARP request rules.ok - Contains information about the boot, install ID and configuration server locations. Anybody see anything wrong with this? Does bootparams and rules.ok look backwards? Another one: /etc/rmtab /etc/dfs/sharetab - a list, maintained by the kernel, that contains all files systems that are moutned /etc/mnttab - a configuration list of resources to share when the NFS server is started or when shareall is executed ... ... Same thing, sharetab and mnttab are backwards. It makes me wonder what other mistakes there are; has anyone else seen any others like this? I also have the Study Guide by Paul Sanghera, which is pretty good but I have noticed it doesnt cover all the material covered in the tests so I cant cross reference things between test king and the book. My test is in a couple of days and RBAC and jumpstart are both throwing me for a loop :(

Patch 112438 on Solaris 2.6

Postby greg10101 » Thu, 01 Jan 2004 04:06:43 GMT

Hello all,
Is there a way that I can apply Sun's 112438 patch on a Solaris
2.6 system. The patch says that it is for Solaris 7-8, but in the
readme file, it states "For Solaris 2.0-2.6 releases, refer to the
Install.info file and/or the README within the patch for instructions
on using the generic 'installpatch' and 'backoutpatch' scripts
provided with each patch."
I haven't found any such information... yet.
    Some advice please!

Thanks,
     -Greg

No, it's for Solaris 8 only. For Solaris 2.6, you'll have to find a
copy of SUNWski or another solution (use http://www.**--****.com/
find the many times /dev/random support has been discussed in the past).

That's boilerplate provided in the default patch README template so that
the same template applies to patches for all OS'es, and shouldn't be
read as a way to install Solaris 8 kernel modules into an incompatible
system.

No. This patch is for Solaris 8 only, and will not work on any other
release. Either upgrade to Solaris 8 (or even better, Solaris 9 which has
/dev/random there by default), or use one of the non-Sun options for
randomness.

This is a generic comment which is on the bottom of all Solaris patches,
regardless of what version.

No; the "Solaris 2.0-2.6" bits are part of the generic

The patch is exclusively for Solaris 8. (not 7-8, only 8)

3.(Help) FTP fails in Solaris 9 but not in Solaris 2.6

Our Sun E3500 server has been upgraded from Solaris 2.6 (105181-17 )
to Solaris 9 (112233-11). There are no changes in any of the FTP
binaries. We take & use all the default FTP binaries and values which
come with Solaris 9.

Our 3rd party FTP program, which extract and put datas to our E3500
server used to work when it's under Solaris 2.6. However, since the
OS upgraded to Solaris 9, we have been getting the following error
messages and the program fails. There's no change in the 3rd party
FTP program end.

We need help in resolving the problem. Specifically,

- Are there any latest FTP related patches for Solaris 9 ??

- We noticed the FTP solaris 9 uses different set of "ports" as
compared with that in solaris 2.6. Is it contributing to the problems
??

- In solaris 9 server , we see "in.ftpd -a" processes whereas in
solaris 2.6 server , we see "in.ftpd". Is there any difference ??

- In solaris 2.6 server , we see "226 ASCII Transfer complete"
message at the end of remote client ftp session window when he/she
performs a simple "ls" commands during the ftp session. However, in
solaris 9 server, we see "226 Transfer complete" message at the end of
remote client ftp session window
when he/she performs a simple "ls" commands during the ftp session.
Please note that, we didn't go with binary mode this time.

Why is there a difference between the 2 Transfer complete messages
above. Any FTP config files in Solaris 9 which control and determine
what completion messages are available ??

Thanks in advance for your help. Bill

4.Need info on differences between solaris 2.6 and Solaris 9

We're planning to buy a new server and I would like to know what are
the new features in solaris versions since 2.6 to 2.9. We received
all the versions since 2.6 with our support but never installed them.

2.6 is beginning to date and we want to move on.

What is the best place to look for that info, other than reading all
the release notes and all the docs that comes with my media upgrades ?

Thanks
