Dear all, we have installed Oracle 11.1.0 on a Solaris 10 10/08 T5220 system and the DB server installs fine. When we try now to create the database by dbca the following errors at the "Completing Database Creation" step were seen: ORA-12801: error signaled in parallel query server P073. ORA-00018: maximum number of sessions exceeded ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_RECOMP", line 629 ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_RECOMP", line 671 ORA-06512: at line 1 We learnt from the net that an increase of the SESSIONS / PROCESSES parameters in the init.ora file should help us. Regardless which number for these parameters we used (PROCESSES = 1000 or 5000 or 10000) the errors above still occured. We turned also off parallelism but without success! Is this a bug and/or is there any other method to create the database without any errors? THX, Rainer
  • 2. Any way to *upgrade* to OpenSolaris?
I'm running snv_91 at home on x86 hardware and for the life of me I can't find any procedure to gracefully upgrade to OpenSolaris. LiveUpgrade doesn't support it, and the last time I booted OpenSolaris I got the feeling it was going to blatz the entire drive. Is there a way to do it, or should I just bite the bullet and migrate to a fresh OpenSolaris installation?

Hello, The crontab service on my Solaris 10 environment isn`t working! All the commands scheduled on it are not executing.. as i can confirm on my logs.. I've already tried to restart the cron service using the svcadm command whithout any effect!! Any idea? thanks
  • 4. Management console needed?
A few months back we had our Solaris server upgraded to Solaris 10. The work was performed by a contractor. Since that time the management console has never worked at all. After months of failed attempts by the contractor and now by Sun it still isn't working. The latest word is that they are saying the management console isn't a part of the opsys install. I am not a Unix guy but I do consider this an essential part of the install. This never came up until months of failed attempts to fix it went by. I would like your informed opinions on this matter and why. It seems to me that they considered it part of the opsys install until they failed to get it working. Thanks.

Console Problem on Sun Fire V890

Hi Admins,

I am unable to connect to Serial Console using DB-25 connector at Sun
Fire V890 Servers.

i tried both cross-over and straigth cables not its not giving me any
prompt.

in past we had same problem and at that time the straigth cable
worked.

I believe the console port is being in used by some other process
thats why i am unable to get it.

from the telnet session i got following deamon. :

# ps -ef |grep onsol
    root 8432 1 0 06:40:58 console 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -
h -p core1 console login: -T sun -d /dev/console -l

appreciate your prompt reply.

2.Problem getting console on v890 RSC

I'm having a problem accessing the console on a v890 RSC.

When I enter the "console" command at the "rsc>" prompt I get...

"Console session already in use."

(The v890 RSC does not support the "console -f" option)

As far as I can tell there are no other users connected to the RSC.

The OpenBoot environment has the following settings...

output-device=rsc-console
input-device=rsc-console

"ps" shows that the following "console" process is running...

"root 342 7 0 23:34:57 console 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g
-d /dev/console -l console -T sun -m ldterm,ttcompat -h"

Can anybody help?

Many Thanks,
