When on Solaris, if a shared library (libmylib.so) is built using the gcc compiler and Application 1 is built using a general C (cc) compiler and links in the newly built library (libmylib.so) built with gcc would there be an error during the building of Applicaiton 1 or during the runtime of Application 1 or would it work fine?
  • 2. How to tell if live upgrade worked?
I've got a T2000 which I've live upgraded to u4, and (after discovering that luactivate doesn't work unless the EEPROM diag-switch? is changed from the default (grr)) its /etc/release file now starts: Solaris 10 8/07 s10s_u4wos_12b SPARC That looks good, however binaries like plockstat and dtrace are dated 2005, which seems a little old. So I'm suspicious that the upgrade hasn't worked properly. Is there any way to tell for sure? Cheers, Chris
  • 3. Online help for Solaris newbies?
Hi! I am wondering if there some place in net that tells newbies the basics of Solaris as far as necessary to understand documentation and help for advanced users. I am really interested, have Solaris installed on my PC, but no real clue yet how everything works besides some obvious similarities with Linux. I am not an expert concerning Linux, too, though. Do you know any good starting point for me to find out more without having to ask lots of very basic questions here and elsewhere? :-) patrick

Best "Best Linker" Book?

Postby Thomas Dineen » Wed, 01 Sep 2004 03:32:29 GMT

Gentle People:

First, let me thank you all for your
answers to my previous post.

Now a question: Can any of you recommend
a UNIX Linker Book that covers in detail the
old SunOS 4 "UNIX a.out" Format, (not the current
ELF).

What about "Linkers and Loaders" by John Levine
is it detailed?

Thanks for the help.

Greetings to PERL Programmers:

I've been an Unix System Administrator writing crude shell scripts for

was wondering if there are any recommendations for a guy with my kind
of back ground. Any input from your guys would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hay trying to learn Linux. Is there a book that has a kind off windows
