in outlook express 6,how do i delete an email from a sender i do not recognize without having to open it first thereby exposing my computer to potential viruses? i called my hp tech support, and after being put on hold several times while the techie researched the issue, the final answer was that i could not delete an email w/o first opening it. i can't believe microsoft would expose us to viruses like that. i hope i am in the correct newsgroup; if not please direct me to the correct one. thanks george

Got totally caught by this guy yesterday. Slammed most of my machines. Network came to a hault. Now many of my servers won't show their IPC$ shares. You can "net share ipc$" but that will only bring it back for a few minutes and then it goes away again. Still misterious dropped connections with servers even with good network response and ping times.

after running mcafee virus scan - 200+ files were corrupted. were these files deleted or was the virus deleted? It was hard to distiguish with the wording. If they were, how do I replace them.
  • 4. Odd Beagle virus activity
I have a machine that got the Beagle.J virus. I ran the Symantec removal tool. The log showed the following: The virus was not found running in memory. It deleted the registry entry and deleted about 173 files. The problem with the computer is that every once and awhile Norton pops up and detects the virus in a file in the Temp Internet folder. The name of the file is always named something like 1[3].jpg. Norton sometimes kills it and sometimes it doesn't. It is diving my customer crazy. Any ideas.
  • 5. Strange Network Activity
I have a small 4 computer lan setup using the 4 port hub provided to me whith my DSL service. I notcied that one of my computers was having TONS of network activity when no one was on it. So, I looked at the web activity log of my router/hub. I noticed that every couple of minutes a request is made to a website that I don't know. The site is naipe.damaged.com.ar and it is happening constantly. That computer is only used as a file server on my network so I shutoff all outsite traffic for that computer. The attempts are still being made however. I have run my antivirus software several times to no avail. Is there anything else I can do? PLEASE HELP MW

I have the latest Service Pack for Win XP I am runnign Norton Antivirus 2005
with its Firewall turned on. Would there be any reason why Windows Firewall
would be disabled after every reboot of the machine.

I've ran Norton antivirus scan of the machine. Nothing infected shows up.
Also, I'bve ranth e virus check and security checker via web brwoser from
the Symantec Security center. Nothing shows up.

I have no spyware issues of the machine. I have ran Spybot...many times

I have even looked ont eh web to make sure that alll the processes seen int
he Task Manager are a valid. They all are valid.

Any help is appreciated.

I have looked up solutions on the MS Knowledgebase and still nothing works.

In article < XXXX@XXXXX.COM >,

Running two firewalls on a computer can cause problems with network
and Internet access, so Windows Firewall should be disabled when
Norton Firewall is present. Perhaps the Norton Firewall is
automatically disabling the Windows Firewall.

1.Firewall automatically disables File and Printer Sharing

I recently upgraded my XP Home software to SP2 and am fully updated. I'm
running a small network and I want to share files and printers. In the
WIndows Firewall application, I select the "Exceptions" tab, and then put a
check in the "File and Printer Sharing" box, and then everything works fine.
However, when I reboot the computer, I notice that somehow the "File and
Printer Sharing" box is no longer checked, and I have to re-check it to get
the services working again.

How do I keep XP from automatically disabling File and Printer Sharing each
time I reboot my computer?

2.Windows splitter View , left pane disables automatically

Hi all,

I have a question regarding SDI , and having multiple
views and displaying them according to selection. I have
three views and each of them are split into two parts and
the left part contains list control box which contains
list of items. When you click on the item in the list
box, NM_DBLCLK is checked and event handler is called to
complete the operation. Same execution applies to all
three views. But when I am in the first view and do a
mouse click in the first view and go to second view and
come back to first view again , the left pane has gone
and not visible any more . It looks like a blank screen.

When I am switching between views , will be hiding the
previous view and activing the view that is selected.

Does anybody have any idea or solution for the above
problem or where to start to find the problem ?

Everything looks fine to me as far the pointers and all
concerned .

Thanks in advance
sri
