  • 1. Where do I find SSADM 4+ templates in Visio ?
Hi, I understand SSADM 4+ templates were available in Visio 2002. I have just moved from Smartdraw to Visio Professional 2003 and am having difficulty finding SSADM 4+ templates. Does anyone know where I can find these templates? Are they still available in the 2002 version?

In a UML diagram, Is there no way of showing the classes inside a package on the main layout? (I.E. make the package icon bigger and show its contents). I know you can go into the package by changing pages, but i want its contents to show on the main layout. There has to be a way of doing this?
  • 3. Custom Properties Pop Up????
Is there any way to have the Custom Properties Windows, or the infor contained in it, pop up when you click on a device? We have a Visio Drawing of our Server Racks and it would be nice if we had a feature that if you wanted info on a certain Server, all you have to do is click on it or move your mouse over it and it would automatically display the Properties? Thanks for any help!
  • 4. Scale question on building plans (Visio 2003)
I will be drawing many building plans for use in fire trucks as pre-fire plans. Is it possible for most shapes to be the scale of the drawing (walls, parking spaces, trucks, doors etc.) of say 1in to 20 ft, but some shapes be to no scale (compass rose, fire hydrants, electrical and gas shutoff for example) ? Currently if one drawing is 1:20 everything is fine, but on a much larger drawing (like a school) might need to be 1:60, and my symbols that represent something now are way to small. Is there anyway to have different layers to a different scale? or force a shape to not scale? Thank you, Eddie (I apologize if this is a double post)

I'm also a new user (as in last week). Start playing with the program. I
have a CAD background, and that certainly helps but the program isn't all
that challenging...yet. In a couple of hours on Day 1, I created a very
simple schematic with newly created shapes. And that wasn't the only thing I
accomplished that day. :-)

I was wondering when you were going to check in. Please do not mention to
your lead how easy Visio is, it could jeopardize my status. ;-)

Well, it ain't THAT easy that I don't have scads of questions and have
already hit your site several times.

I will be creating some electronic schematics for my guys, AKA the
Wireheads, to use as aids in troubleshooting issues on the Bradley tanks.
The information exists on paper but it usually involves 5 or 6 drawing
numbers and each drawing number could be a multi-sheet drawing. They need to
be able to access their info easily without all of the extraneous
information. Plus, if they are lying on their backs looking under the
"dashboard", they don't have a lot of elbow room. My schematics are going to
answer specific questions.

Any chance you can recommend a good source of information for creating
electronic schematics with Visio?

2.Visio Beginner Needs Help

I would like to model the process and data flows for a web application
using VISIO, but I have no experience in "formal" software modeling.
I'm not sure which template style to use, nor am I sure of what to
place in each shape. the proposed web application consists of an
online form that will be stored and can be edited until final
submission. Then it moves up an approval chain of individuals who log
into the form and process it (approve or reject it). At each stage of
processing, there will be regular messages to update the originator on
the status of the form as it moves through the approval process. Can
anyone help me with an quick outline of what this might look like?

4.Moving from Visio beginner to skillful user

What are the best FAQs or even books to really understand
Visio quickly?

(I will even read more of the manual or help if that is your
recommendation but seldom have I gained much there without
a very specific question.)

I admit it, after years of using and loving Visio to just hack
out drawings, I am still a beginner at this package.

When drawings work out, I am happy, and when they don't I
usually just find a different way or settle for less.

(Sort of like the user that uses Word for typing plain notes,
or Excel as a simple calculator).

I have even read much of the manuals (in various versions)
and done some of the tutorials. But I really seem to be fighting
Visio's connection points and stencils much of the time --
getting it to do what I want without really understanding or
getting it to cooperate.

I was trying to use the "Mind Map" stencil for the first time
(all I really want is some simple "branched network" diagrams
("network" in the mathematical sense, not the computer sense
(I am pretty good at those.)

Not hierarchical nets but free form nodes (with text) and branches
that come out as angles with subangle branches. (A sort of network

What is the best single or few sources to really understand
Visio as rapidly as possible?

programmer and have on occasion fiddled with that too
in Visio.]

I have just installed visio 2003 and am trying to produce
a gantt chart for a project i am currently working on.
The query i have is regarding the task line that appears
(Blue line that represents the length of the task) on the
chart. I wanted to know if it is possible to have
multiple task lines on a single row. e.g i have six 1
week tasks that occur at different times in the year that
i want to represent on my diagram under just one row. How
can i do this??? Is it possible.

Plz can someone help on this as im on a tight deadline :o(
