If I take a shape or group and change its interaction style (behavior dialog box) so that it acts as a 1D line instead of a 2D box, the right and left anchors will snap to any connection points in thier immediate vicinity. My question is, how do I change WHICH anchors will snap to connection points. If I wanted the top and bottom anchors to do it, then I just need to rotate the shape 90 degrees before grouping it, then rotate it back. But what if I wanted the bottom right and bottom left anchors to snap? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How do I add third-party templates to Visio

Postby Tom Jones » Wed, 14 Mar 2007 05:43:48 GMT

I downloaded a new template library and am trying to figure out how to add
it to the Software category (I think), however the info on how to do this
seems a bit sparse.

There appear to be two types with this library that do the same thing when I
click on them -- *.vsd and *.vst.

Does anyone know what I need to do to add the library?

It depends a bit upon which version of Visio you are using, however,
try:
a. If you have a "My Stencils" folder in My Documents then create a
new folder under My Stencils called Software.

or
b. If there is no "My Stencils" then create a folder for your new
stencils and templates:
c:\Program Files\Stencils\Software
or
My Documents\Stencils\Software
or similar. The final element of the folder path defines the category
for the stencils/templates
Add thsi new path in menu Tools | Options | File Paths to the
templates and Stencils paths.
Restart Visio.

Similarly if you have medical stencils then create a folder path
ending with medical and that will be the category.

I am using Microsoft Office Visio for Enterprise Architects (11.4301.8107)
and, unfortunately, your suggested solution does not appear to work (there
was no file options path).

I found ALL of the default VST/VSD./VSD file types under a single directory
(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\1033). The third-party library I
downloaded also had all three types and it is still unclear how to add them
to either an existing category (i.e., Software) or create a new one.

This is frustrating because it would seem that it should be something that
is common and intuitively documented. Plus, it is made even more difficult
by having, apparently, different flavors of Visio for some strange reason.
