  • 1. Can instances of custom shapes update when I change the master?
Hi. This is really driving me crazy. I have a custom stensil with a load of shapes in it, each representing functions in a system. These recur on mulpile pages within the visio document. If I change a master of the shape, I was expecting all of the instances to update. The process I'm following is: - drag shape from stensil group onto page 1 and again onto page 2 of a visio diagram. - right click the stensil and select 'edit stensil' - right click the shape in question and select 'edit master > edit master shape' - make the change/addition - press save - I then get the message: "Modifications made to a master open in a window will not be saved. Close the window and resave the drawing to record the modifications" > If I close the other window - everything closes, If I close and press save the instances don't update. Please please help. Matt

  • 3. Visio 2007 Std - problem with shape data
Hi, I added a couple of shape data to a shape (Server shape). I recognized that my labels are switched in lines. Like I define a label called "IP address" it used to be in line 2. Sometime in between it moved to line 5. Don't know why. But some more strange things happened. I defined a label "data centre" I gave it a type "fixed list" and entered some info's there. Everything looked fine I checked OK and in between again I recognized that my type "fixed list" was gone. The label was still there but the type changed to "string" and my values are gone. Every time I try to fix it back it won't take my changes. I don't get any error messages that I entered a wrong value or wrong spelling or sort of that. Some other labels were also switched back from fixed or variable list to string and the data was lost also. There seems to be no pattern why this happens. Any idea? The system is a German Windows XP SP2 (fully patched) laptop machine. English Office 2003 SBS SP3 (fully patched) and English Visio 2007 standard (fully patched) installed. Thanks for help. Kind regards Chris

In Visio 2007 Professional, trial version: I'm trying to create new shapes in a P & ID shape stencil, but I can't get them to be recognized by the auto-numbering and reporting features. The only way I can get it to work is by manually editing the ShapeSheet which is painfully slow and convoluted. I don't how to edit them by cut and paste. PS: The Shape Conversion menu command does not do it. -- MartyF

That looks like a simple enough drawing for Visio - you will need simply
play with the tool and select the correct Stencils for the figures. Check
out some samples here:

Visio Professional has what you'll need, stencil wise. It's got a huge
library of all sorts, and there are plenty of free libraries online as well.

ark had the Visio drawing attached to his message. Did you not see the
attachment or can you not open it? Which version of Visio are you running?

ark is an old timer at Visio and I can guarantee that he did use it for
this drawing.

2.Saving drawing as *.png picture WITH margin around?

When I want to save a *.png picture from Visio then the upper left corner and
the lower right corner touches the border of the resulting picture.

However I don't want to stick the drawing directly to the border of the picture.

How can I define a margin of lets say 1 cm around the current drawing and include this margin
when I save my stuff as *.png picture?

3.scale drawing to imported picture (scan of plan)

Hi group,

This is what I'm doing:
New drawing, Home Plan (Metric) stencil.
I set the scale manually (to 74.5 mm = 3750 mm)
I have measured this scale from the plan before scanning.
Now when I measure some distance I get 4050 mm = 4350 mm.
This should be 4350 = 4350 mm

How can I correct my scale to reflect measurements correctly?

Thanks a lot!

5.Saving Visio drawing as gif result in a cut edges picture

Hi,
I'm trying to save a Visio drawing in gif format.
The edges of the drawing in the gif picture are cut off.
I tried using Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V into a word document but the edges are still
cut off.
Only when I use Ctrl+C - Ctrl-V into another page in the Visio file the
picture is pasted without cut off edges.
Note that I have saved Visio drawings as gif many times before without any
problem.

Thanks in advance,
Noam Zafrir.
