  • 3. connector line help needed
I have created several flowcharts in Visio and one of things that I am having problems with is using a connector line to come off of a decision shape and run back up to one of the main connector lines for purposes of creating a loop. For example, I will have the start shape, connector line, pre-defined process shape for a module called startup, a connector line, another pre-defined process shape for a module called main, a connector line, and then a decision shape with a text label. I want to run the connector line from the decision shape back to the connector line that appears just before the main module and have this connector line point to the left. I have noticed that the connector lines seem to have their own idea on where to go because I sometimes end up with a connector line that appears as a double arrow head pointing up and down when it reaches another connector line. I also find the connector line I am drawing from the decision shape will not simply go up and to the left like I want it to. It will instead go up, to the left, and then up again. In order to get around this, I am having to make my connector lines at least 5 blocks long on the grid sheet just to get the line to appear the way I want it. Can anyone tell me why it has to be done this way? For a long flowchart, a lot of space would be wasted with just the connector lines.

Moving dynamic connector connection points - how?

Postby Gary Faulkner » Thu, 30 Oct 2003 07:13:05 GMT

I am working with a database ERD created using the
Visio "Database Model Diagram" template (2002 SR-1
v10.0.2514). I have a dynamic connector defining a
foreign key relationship in my diagram. The dynamic
connector attaches to both table objects on the bottom
edge. I would like to have the dynamic connector
attached to the top edge of both objects. I am looking
for a way to relocate the connection point of a dynamic
object to another edge of the same object it is currently
connected to. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

1.Connection points move when dynamic connectors are lengthened!!??!

I am working on electrical schematics in Visio 2003 and I've added connection
points on dynamic connectors as wire junctions. However, whenever I
stretch/lengthen/move the connector, the connection point moves and screws up
the associated junction. Is there a way to keep the connection points from
moving when the connector end points are moved?

2.dynamic connector shape with outward/inward connection points

I use Visio as the graphic interface of the simulating program.
The mathematical blocks have inputs and outputs.
For block's inputs it is possible to use inward connection point.
For block's outputs it is possible to use outward connection point.
But for wire's are necessary appropriate connection points.
In Visio2002 I have not found dynamic connector
shape with outward and inward connection points.

Help me to create such dynamic connector shape.

4.Add connection point to a dynamic connector

Hi there,

Can anyone tell me how I should go about adding a connection point to a
(curved) dynamic connector? I'd like to drop another shape onto the mid
point of the connector to describe the conection relationship (ie a red dot,
or a green dot etc.).

I can't work out how to build a formula for the connection point that will
always point to the centre of the line.

Any clues?

Thanks

5.Dynamic connectors and connection points ...

My 2-cents
dynamic connectors are a hard to customize - since you never know how
many legs, bends, etc.
connection points are located by X,Y within a shape's coordinates
dynamic lines are up to visio to locate
so even if you place a connection at .25,.25 you are not guaranteed that
it will be on the drawn line.

There is a limitation with what you can do in the shape sheet. You can
overcome this limitation with an addon, but then it is an addon.

I am not sure exactly of your ?, but if you are needing spaced connection
points on a straight line, then that is possible.
