  • 1. How to update multiple stencils when linked with Excel database
I am working on a project that uses multiple stencil files. I am able to export to an excel database, and refresh each symbol by dragging to the drawing, but am wondering how I could update multiple symbols at one time in the actual stencil file from the excel database? The ONLY updates I can find update one at a time and I am needing a quicker way to update my symbols' custom properties all at once, rather than editing each individual custom property. I am using visio 2003 standard. Is this possible with Visio and excel?

Red crosshairs won't let me place a line

Postby arhooley » Thu, 09 Jun 2005 06:15:45 GMT

I want to connect two shapes using a line.

While I'm dragging one end-point of a line, suddenly a little red
crosshair shows up that I can't get the end-point anywhere near, and a
red margin around the whole drawing lights up and the end of the line
snaps to one of those bizarre margins.

I can work around it by creating connection points, but I'd rather just
put lines wherever I want.

What's going on?

Go to Tools > Snap & Glue and turn on Glue to Geometry. That should let you
connect anywhere without making connection points. You can also turn off
dynamic glue there to prevent the full-shape highlighting.

3.Toolbars won't stay in position as placed.

Every time I open Visio the toolbars are not as previously positioned. I

I understand toolbars change, for example when I view a shapesheet, and
that's ok.
I currently place all frequently used toolbars together at the top of my

there are large gaps and they are scattered. Any way to lock them into
position? Thanks in advance.
