  • 1. New Shapes?
    Any word on when MS will release new Shapes for Visio? If MS will not venture into this avenue, can anyone recommend a few good resources for the best shapes on the Net? I am interested in the highest quality stuff out there. Thanks in advance. -a
  • 2. Pick up Word Cross References in Visio ?
    Word does a fantastic job of keeping track of cross-references as the document gets renumbered. I have some Visio diagrams embedded within the Word document. I would love to be able to add text such as "see 3.4.3" to shapes in the Visio diagram, but to insert them in the same way as Word cross-references. That way, the references on the Visio shapes would automatically update as the numbering of the parent Word document changes. Can it be done? How? Thanks, Nick.
  • 3. how do I zoom in a shape only
    I am making a floor plan layout and labeling all the network jack locations. I am using a simple box to do this with text in it. What I want to do is make the box so when I click it, it will zoom in (like a popout or something) only the box though and not the whole drawing. So it will not show other labels of other items but only the item you click on. Like if it could be a hyperlink or something like that thanks

Trouble. Visio 2003 SP1 ORGANIZATION CHART WIZARD

Postby sorgy » Wed, 23 Feb 2005 02:24:38 GMT

got a trouble using Visio 2003 SP1 ORGANIZATION CHART WIZARD.

I want to import org data from Exchange using ORGANIZATION CHART WIZARD
and customize the fields to load and draw in the shapes.
So, I found HOWTO articles in MSDN and also in Office Online
Assistance. The article name - "Create an organization chart from a
data file using the command line or Run method"
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP010384221033.aspx.

Also I used examples from Microsoft Office Visio Code Librarian to
write a C# solution. This solution will help me to automate the process
of generation org charts.

So the trouble: I couldn't customize the fields in parameter
DISPLAY-FIELDS even if I use the correct syntax. If I add the parameter
LAUNCHGUI, execute the ORGANIZATION CHART WIZARD AddOn and manually
select the fields which will be displayed in each box in the
organization chart than the result would be OK. If I define any custom
fields in DISPLAY-FIELDS such as Department Name or Company Name than
wizard'll draw only Name field in each box in the org chart.

Help me? I couldn't find the difference between the actions that I do
in my solution and using drawing-definition organization chart wizard
pages.

Furthermore, I tried to run my solution using Visio 2002 and it works
after renaming the properties in DISPLAY-FIELDS. And even in Visio 2003
import CUSTOM-PROPERTY-FIELDS using my solution were done OK...
Any ideas?

This is the code of solution:

const string ORGANIZATION_CHART_WIZARD = "OrgCWiz";
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Visio.Addon chartWizard;
string command;
string commandPart;
bool returnValue;
try
{
// Get a reference to the Organization Chart Wizard add-on.
chartWizard =
theApplication.Addons.get_ItemU(ORGANIZATION_CHART_WIZARD);

// Initialize the wizard and prepare it to accept a series of
// arguments.
command = @"/S-INIT";
chartWizard.Run(command);

// Tell the wizard that the following string contains arguments.
command = @" /S-ARGSTR ";

// Specify that the organization chart information is from
// Microsoft Exchange.
commandPart = @"/MICROSOFT-EXCHANGE";
chartWizard.Run (command + commandPart);

// Specify which field represents the name.
// /NAME-FIELD="Name"
commandPart = @"/NAME-FIELD="
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Name");
chartWizard.Run (command + commandPart);

// Specify which field represents the manager.
// /MANAGER-FIELD="Manager"
commandPart = @"/MANAGER-FIELD="
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Manager");
chartWizard.Run (command + commandPart);

// Specify which fields to display on the organization chart.
// DISPLAY-FIELDS="Name","Title"
commandPart = @"/DISPLAY-FIELDS="
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Department Name") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Name");
chartWizard.Run (command + commandPart);

// Specify which custom properties are to be created.
// /CUSTOM-PROPERTY-FIELDS=
commandPart = @"/CUSTOM-PROPERTY-FIELDS="
+ @StringToFormulaForString("UniqueID") + "HIDDEN,"
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Name") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Manager") + "HIDDEN,"
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Title") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Department Name") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Company Name") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Telephone") + ","
+ @StringToFormulaForString("Address");
chartWizard.Run (command + commandPart)

Does anyone know how to use the Organization Chart Wizard to import a text

3.Using Visio Organization Chart Wizard and lines that automatically appear in each box

Hi all, sorry about the frequency of posts, but I'm having a small problem with the generation of the organizational chart that Visio is doing

A little black line is appearing in each of the boxes (belonging to the organizational chart hierarchy) and
1. I'm not sure what that line is supposed to be delimiting - because if I resize the box, the text that falls beneath the line changes
2. Since the Name of the entity in my organizational chart is separated from their role/position using a carriage return in the box - I don't really see the need for the line and thus how do I tell Visio not to produce it or at the very least can I just select all the boxes and tell visio to remove it from all of them? Or perhaps to put the line beneath the Name regardless of the size of the box

4.shape sequencing with the Visio Organization Chart Wizard

I am creating organization charts using the Visio Organization Chart Wizard
and data maintained in Excel. The wizard works well except that the
positioning of the shapes is random from one time to the next - if I run the
wizard repeatedly with no intervening chages to the Excel source file, the
position of the shapes is different each time. There is no apparent sequence
- i.e. alphabetical by any of the attributes. Is there anyway to control
the sequence and positions of the shapes using this wizard?

5.Organization Chart Wizard

I have Visio 2007. I am trying to import and Excel spreadsheet to
automatically create a org chart. I have looked up the instructions on
creating this and have been unsuccessful.

My spreadsheet consists of:

NAME
REPORTS TO
POSITION
DEPARTMENT

The unique field in Name

The message I get is:

Your organization data contains 265 entries that are not in the
organization. Do you want to include them in the drawing. ** I click YES **

If I click "NO" I get nothintg.

I end up with 265 sheets with on block on each page. I am not getting an
Organization chart at all. Any ideas??
