Visio Query We are interested in knowing if a functionality exists to draw a variation of the contents of SQL Tables. For instance if you have the following tables: Objects Object_ID Object_Name Object_Relationship Flow (eg. In/Out) Object_ID We would like to know if the following output may be produced: ObjectA ObjectB ObjectC We have a table that contains the flows between objects and we would like to see Visio draw the relationships/flows between the objects. It basically has to expand the Object-Relationship table as above into all instances/layers.

I am using a template that was created by a manufactuer. This template uses several background drawings. When I print the drawings the last line gets chopped off. I need to edit the background drawing & move it over 1/4". When I try to edit the background drawing I cannot hilight any of the objects. This background drawing has speical functions built into it so I have to use it. Can anyone tell me how I can edit this background drawing? Thank You Larry Tuttle 623-516-0058

nope. If all you want to do is look at it you might consider the visio viewer available from M$ via download. al >-----Original Message----- >Is there any way to open a newer visio file in an older >version? • 4. Organisation Chart
Hi I've written a solution in VB 6.0 via visio 2000 that creates org charts and exports them to our intranet. I do it this way as i have more control over everything This works fine when you run it from the command line and you are logged in. (charts are produced and exported) But when i try to run it via an XML web service (using shell method) it just hangs, this happens when i try to bring in the organisation chart template, the server beeps (no event logs) and i only get an error when i go on the server and kill the visio task the web service is set up to run as an authenticated user exactly the same as when i run via command prompt could the toolbar or the help prompt (i have ticked the box to stop them but you never know) that always appears when using the org chart template be causing this problem (due to not having a screen )and if so can it be disabled or does anybody know of another problem what about vis 2003 does this deal with org chart better etc.

Visio 2003 and "Custom Properties" from DB?

Postby wild_0ne » Sat, 06 Dec 2003 08:44:20 GMT

Does anyone know if you can pull the information in the "Custom
Properties" for an item on a diagram from a database? We are using
Visio 2003 for diagraming our infrastructure and I would like to be
able to pull this info (like serial #, RAM, CPU, etc.) from our
inventory DB (MS SQL DB) and have it populate into these properties. I
would just like a quick view of this info right from the Visio diagram
and not have to maintain the data in 2 seperate places. Thanks for
your help!

This will require a bit of code, but it is doable. You can create an on drop
event that will request a key and then use the key to retrieve information
from the database to populate the shape. Or there are many other scenarios.

4.Adding Custom Property, applying Custom Property settings limi

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your response.

I have asked my colleque for some more information.

Situation: 7 Custom Property Sets have sucessfully been defined and I want
to add another one (more that one in fact).

Step-by-step procedure:
1. I select a shape which has custom properties based on an already defined
custom property set, because I want to create a new custom property set,
based on an existing one.

2. I select Tools, Add-Ons, Visio Extras, Edit Custom Property Sets, and in
the window, I select Add.

3. I select "Create a new set from the shape selected in Visio" and click on
OK.

4. Normally, I would then click on Define to alter the custom properties of
this newly created Custom Property Set, but the problem arises further on and
also happens when I don't alter the custom properties of the newly created
Custom Property Set, so I click on OK to leave the window "Edit Custom
Property Sets".

5. Then I select the shape which I want to give the custom properties from
the newly created Custom Property Set and I select Tools, Add-Ons, Visio
Extras, Apply Custom Property Sets. And now, in the selection box for the
Custom Property set, only 1 of the original 7 Custom Property Sets is
available and the other defined Custom Property Sets have disappeared. The
one that is available is the first one that was originally created. Also,
when I go back to the window to Edit Custom Property Sets, only this one is
available and the other 6 are gone.

When I execute a similar procedure, but don't first select a shape on which
the new Custom Property Set should be based (i.e. create a blank Custom
Property Set and then manually fill it with custom properties), everything
works fine, I can add as many as I like and apply them to shapes as I like.

Any help is much appreciated as I don't want to manually add custom
properties again ;-)
