Linking objects between document pages: Resolved

  • 1. Alignment in callouts
Last week I already posted this problem, but since I posted the full story only a few days later, some of you may have missed it. The gist is I think I have detected a bug in Visio 2007, you could replicate my actions and should get the same strange result. First I created a shape including a custom property (data set) and a text callout. The vertical alignment in the callout is set to 'Top', and in the shape itself the vertical alignment of the text is also set to 'Top'. I dropped the new shape on the page, and I had to move the text call-out a little manually by using the arrow keys. (selection behavior of the shape default, i.e. 'Group first'.) Now, if I enter a long line for the shape's variable in the callout, the vertical alignment looks like 'Middle' instead of 'Top', although its values in both the shape itself and the call-out are 'Top'. I have dropped another instance of the new shape on the page, and entered a long line of text for the text call-out as well. I did not move the call-out for that shape, and here everything was fine. I compared the ShapeSheets of the two call-outs but there was no difference! Hopefully someone of you has a solution around this.
  • 2. Layer visibility vs. grouping
A group of objects, each one resides in a separate layer but some of the layers are shared (several objects reside in more than one layer). Now I want to switch one layer invisible (but the objects on it are also on the other layer which must remain visible) get the picture. Is it possible to infroce some rules regarding grouped objects and layer visibility (in cases like this)? Mac
  • 3. ShapeSheet
Hi, I'm trying to develop a Visio icon that can perform a few custom actions. Not that I know a lot about what I am doing but I had made some progress and now seem to have gone backwards ! In the icon's shapesheet, 3 "actions" are listed. One is labelled "Actions.PlayPhrase". The text in the action box I vary from attempt to attempt, but should be something that plays a .wav file. As I look at it now it says PLAYSOUND("C:\Test.wav",0,1,1), and naturally when I select it from the icon menu it fails to play anything. Ideally, eventually, I want to replace the direct path/filename with the "Prop.AudioFile" defined earlier in the shapesheet and labelled "AduioFile". Does anyone have any suggestions on why the file isn't playing at the moment, and what I need to do to allow me to use "AudioFile" as the file to play ? Thanks.

That was my problem, I didn't realize there was a difference between the
master stencil and the document stencil. Once I started using the document
stencil from File>Stencils>Document Stencil I was able to get my changes to
propagate through the entire document. It makes so much more sense now.

Thanks for your help,

1.Linking objects between document pages

I have a document that has several pages with the same detailed object which
needs frequent updates. I am looking for a way to make changes to the object
once and have the change propagate to the other objects on all of my other
pages. Is there some way that I could use the "paste link" function or
something that works similar. "Paste link" will only allow me to paste a
link from another visio document not from an object on a different page of
the same document. I would really appreciate some direction on this

2.Create invisible hot spots for links - RESOLVED

I got this to work perfectly by setting the fill transparency to 99% for the
shapes that cover the area I want to be able to click on. :)

3.Linking objects between pages

When working on large E-R diagrams, I quite often split them across different
tabs/pages so that they're easy to print. Usually I'll do this by copying one
table to another page, so there is a duplicate. Is there a way to link the
two tables such that making changes to one will also update the copy on other
pages? If not, can this facility be added?

4.Print Visio page with imbedded object link

Is there a way to print a visio document along with imbedded object links? I
have a Visio diagram, that has word objects linked, and I'd like to print the
visio, as well as the attached links. Possible?

5.Object linking from Visio to Word with more than one Pages

is it possible to link Visio-Page from visio to Word when I have more than
one Pages.
When I link the Visio-Document only the first Page (Page-1) will be linked.
How could I link Page-2 to Page-n?

Thanks for supporting me.
