I am trying to find out how to create a Visio drawing based on the contents of an excel spreadsheet. I did many years ago, but I can remember how I did it. If I recall, I had a spreadsheet in a predefined format. The second column included the steps in the process. Those steps would then be created in the drawing.

  • 4. Windows & Dialog Stencil
After spending an afternoon trying to change some RGB color setting values in the "Blank form" stencil, I believe something else has to be done to render those changed values. For instance, within the Show ShapeSheet window, located in the Fill Format section the following string states: =IF(User.Active=TRUE,RGB(227,255,255),RGB(227,255,255)) I want to change the RGB values to make the active window display in a different color. Whenever I make the changes to the RGB values in within above string nothing happens. Yes, I commit the changes by selecting the "green" check mark and still my changes are not displayed in the "Blank form" stencil. If I ungroup the object because it consisit of multiple objects I can change the values at that level which okay; however, regrouping does not always give me the results I want. Question: (1) How do I get the function "User.Active" to make these changes? Do I have generate some sort of recompile? If so, how do I do this? (2) What is the value of Show Shape Sheet window other than functioning as a "lock/unlock" of objects? Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks, -- saXso
  • 5. Saving to Web creates 27 files even when Publishing options set to
Hi, I'm using Visio 2003 and would like to save a Visio file to a Web page with a single graphic (no frames), which contains hyperlinks to other graphics on other Web pages. When I save a .vsd file to Web (.htm), I get 27 files regardless of whether the default Publishing options are selected or deselected (Details, Go To Page, Search Pages, and Pan and Zoom). Is there a way to save/export without creating all 27 files? I need only 3 files; for example, filename.htm, filename_gif_1.htm, and filename_gif_1.gif.

How do you set the default line format?

Postby Z3didXJs » Sun, 17 Jul 2005 07:44:02 GMT

I have tried to set the default format for lines in my Visio, but it does not
work. I opened Visio Help and found that what I was doing was correct, but
yet it still doesn't work. Any clues?

If you have nothing selected when you change formatting properties in Visio,
you are editing the default format. The default format applies to geometric
primitives drawn using the Drawing Tools. The text format also applies to
text created by the Text Tool. The default format does not apply to the
Connector tool or to shapes dragged from a stencil.

4.Setting Default Formatting for a Connector

Does anyone know how to set a default format for connectors? For line
formatting I know that you are supposed to make sure you don't have a shape
selected, go to Format - Line, select the formatting you want and click
Apply...every line that you add to the drawing thereafter has the default
formatting that was selected. I would like to do the same thing for
connectors - I want a default format option so that when I add a connector to
my drawing it is auto-formatted w/an arrow endpoint.

5.Setting default formatting for connections

I know that default formatting (arrow heads, pattern, color) can be
set for lines drawn with the line tool -- by deselecting all, doing
Format->Line, and setting the desired parameters. However, this
formatting doesn't apply to connections created with the connection
tool. Can the default formatting for connections be set somehow in a
similar fashion?
