I have a list of tasks and would like to make a process flow. Is there a way to do that electronically or do I have to enter each individually?

I have been using the Database Wizard to connect Microsoft Excel data to Visio Shapes. However, I have only been able to drag and drop a shape one at a time and then had to manually assign each ID record in order to properly populate that current Shape. What I want to do is drag the shape and have it replicate itself based on the total number of ID records in the connected database all at once. Please tell me the trick for doing this all at once. My expectation is that I wouldn't have to manually identify any of the shapes to their record since all records would be used.
  • 5. Linking Multiple Text Fields in a Shape to Database
I have been trying to use "PERT 1" shape. "PERT 1" shape has many "fields" like duration, early start, task name, and late start. I would like to link each of these fields to the data in my Excel Data. Currently, when I use the Database Wizard, all I can find is Shape.Text, which happens to control the text for "Task Name" in the "PERT 1" shape. So, while I can populate the "Task Name", I can't see the other fields like early start, late start, or duration. How do I get these fields to show up in the Cells column of the Cells:Database Fields:Links dialog box of the Database Wizard? My assumption is the issue is I am using a grouped shape which is actually multiple shapes, each with its own "Shape.Text" field. Since the "Task Name" shape happens to be the primary shape in the group, it is the one that is selected for control by the database. I am using Office 2003 with Visio 2003. How can I get the Cells field to have all the Shapes of the Group PERT 1 to show up in the Cells area of the Cells:Database Fields:Links dialog box? Less immediate question is how does the Database Wizard select which cells are going to be a part of the Cells list in the Cells:Database Fields:Links dialog box?

Linking objects between document pages

I have a document that has several pages with the same detailed object which
needs frequent updates. I am looking for a way to make changes to the object
once and have the change propagate to the other objects on all of my other
pages. Is there some way that I could use the "paste link" function or
something that works similar. "Paste link" will only allow me to paste a
link from another visio document not from an object on a different page of
the same document. I would really appreciate some direction on this

Thanks,

JDCK

consider making your changes to the object master which is in the document
stencil for those times that you want to propagate the changes across
multiple images.....

Al,

Thanks for your quick response!

Acutally I suspected this as the solution from what I read in the visio help
file but after I drag the master to the sheet and then make a change to the
master and save the master the change does not propagate to the the object on
the sheet. Am I doing something wrong? I'm running Visio 2002 SR-1

Thanks,

are you dragging from the 'real' stencil or from the document stencil (file
=> shapes => document stencil). Under the covers there is an intermediate
step between the real stencil and the page where the shape is first copied
to the document stencil and then the page. You have to be sure which
'master' you're changing.

1.Linking objects between document pages: Resolved

Al,

That was my problem, I didn't realize there was a difference between the
master stencil and the document stencil. Once I started using the document
stencil from File>Stencils>Document Stencil I was able to get my changes to
propagate through the entire document. It makes so much more sense now.

Thanks for your help,

JDCK

2.Linking objects between pages

When working on large E-R diagrams, I quite often split them across different
tabs/pages so that they're easy to print. Usually I'll do this by copying one
table to another page, so there is a duplicate. Is there a way to link the
two tables such that making changes to one will also update the copy on other
pages? If not, can this facility be added?

3.Print Visio page with imbedded object link

5.Linking to specific Word document page from Visio

I am trying to hyperlink to a specific page on a Word document, from an
object using Visio Standard 2003.

The Visio drawing is then to be converted to HTML.

The Word document resides on a network drive. I can successfully link to
the whole document, but can to a specific page. I have tried various
additions to the hyperlink in the address field
(networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page=3,
networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page3,
networkdrive\Document\Docname.doc#page-3 etc) but none go to the specific
page.

Does anyone have any tips?
