  • 2. Displaying Share in My Network Places
Dear all, Hello, i've a problem. I need to display a shared folder to a certain number of users in an OU through "My Network Places" window. Shared folder is required to be the only displayed item (as a network place) in "My Network Places", beside "Add Network Places" item. "Entire Network" & "Computers Near Me" are being hidden from group policy applied onto that OU. Display of all drives (including network drives) is also disabled via Group policy for that OU. Publishing that shared folder into that OU does not automatically makes the shared folder appear in "My Network Places". Running a script to create a networked drive also doesn't display the shared folder in "My Network Places", rather just creates a network drive.
  • 3. Disk transfer question
I want to make sure I proceed correctly in this scenario....user had an IDE drive in a Wn2K Pro box......wanted to have it available in his server..........he removed it and installed it in the server on an IDE channel...it is set to cable select....when booting, errors were detected and the chkdsk utility ran and completed without issue............he then opened disk manager and was prompted to write a signature to the disk......he did ! ! The only option available now to access the drive data is to format it............any suggestion about recovering the data? NTFS utilities? TIA

Recovering files that existed after doing a clean install of W2K

I had to perform a clean install of W2K last night and all
of the .doc, .xls files were gone. Is there a way to
recover these files ? If so what folder are they under ?

If you formatted the drive before the install, they are gone.
doc and xls files are generally created by the user.
Have you searched the entire drive for *.doc and *.xls files?
If these files were in you My Documents folder and you did not re-format
the drive, they should be under Documents and Settings\<original user
name>\My Documents.

3.Trouble doing a clean install of vista

I orginally had XP on my comp and wanted to install Vista Home Prem. I did
the Upgrad Advisor and everythign was fine beside two programs that would not
work and an audio driver. I preformed a clean install and about 2 hours
later it was just a blank screen. The monitor was getting a signal but it
was blank.

I tried to load in safe mode it just started to install some drivers and
then it just sat there.

I tried to reinstall from the installation disk and it would load the
windows files, go to the vista back ground screen and you would get the mouse
pointer but no menu or any other graphics would load. I tried this several
times.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

4.doing a clean install of vista frm xp prosp2

hello
first I had xp pro with sp2 running great. Got vita beta 2 finally in the
mail so I figure I install it right away.
I figure I put the dvd in then reboot and expecting to do a clean install.
Forgive me for benig rusty but when clicking on clean install, shouldnt ask
me to reformat first then install? it did not. I tried upgrading and ok. I
tried after reinstalling xppro again to do a clean install and it installed
but is it over the xp cause it created an OLD windows file. Am I running
vista from a clean install or not?

Would someone please give me directions how to reinstall Vista from a clean
install starting from How to reformat the HD with using XP pro then clean
install vista.

OR doing a clean install VISTA no matter what putx XP in an OLD file and I
being rusty at this am running VISTA from a clean install without knowing.

the only way i did my install after not sure of clean install is put in
xpprosp2 from boot

click on to install windows and then it asks me to reformat and it did and
thought I swap cd to vista dvd so it loads vista but it didnt. so reformatted
again load xp all the way then install vista and OK

5.Upgrading or doing a clean install of Win XP

I have beent rying for a while to get Win XP installed on my home PC which is running Win 2K. It copies the files to do the installation and then restarts the PC and then hangs after it says Copying Windows XP files to your computer.

What could be happening that would cause the installation process to just stop and hang like that?
