  • 1. ActiveX settings
Off the "help" screen in Win2000 (in fact, clicking on help for "ActiveX, IIS and" or when I am running Norton Internet Security I get the message: "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on the page". This is a new problem, a I haven't had problems. Running IE 6.0 and all updates have been run. Using Win2000 SP4. Tried changing security settings to "low", but this didn't correct the problem.
  • 2. Cannot Remove NTFS Drives with Recovery Console
My PC ran fine for months with Windows 2000 Professional. Now, I am having various problems so I attempted to format the hard drive using Recovery Console per the Microsoft Support directions. The system lets me go throug the entire process, but when I type "Y" to confirm that I want to format the drive, withing five seconds I get another C:\WINNT prompt, then I type exit. The computer restarts but my "C" drive (my only hard drive) has not been reformatted. Any ideas??? Brad
  • 3. "TASKMGR.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" (Win2000+SP4) ????
From time to time when I call the TaskManager of Win2000 a dialog window pops up informing me that "TASKMGR.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" After hitting <OK> I tried it several times again until the TaskManager Window appears successfully on the screen. The error seems to have no impact or sideeffects on the stability of the whole system. Why are there these TaskManager errors ? Is there a replacement tool for the taskmanager ? SP4 for Win2000 is already applied. Regards Mark
  • 4. svchost.exe program error
I get a error message that say the program svchost.exe has develop a error and I would have to restart the computer, even when I restart the computer the message comes up again. If I just erase the message off the screen and continue using the computer it wouldn't work good. For example I cant read my hotmail inbox, but I could read my yahoo inbox. If I go to a site and click on a link nothing would happen. I could read my hotmail by going to outlook express which I never use before. If I try to get any type of support from a next site it would not send the message. I just turn on the computer and the error did not pop up as yet, I hope this message go through before it pop up. It started over a week ago. One time when my desktop finish loading I press ctrl-alt-delete and went to task manager then to processes and I notice the cpu usage was going up and down and when it hit 100% thats when the svchost.exe message came up and the cpu usage went back to 0%

1000 Event ID Error + Problem with Event Viewer Right Pane Info missing (sometimes)

Postby dcdon » Sat, 30 Aug 2003 13:09:05 GMT

================
Please, Looking for a little insight into a problem with this error.
Puzzlement. Event error follows.
Am trying to get them to replecate some recent activity, but no luck as of
yet.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 8/28/2003
Time: 6:44:27 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: (anon)
Description:
Windows cannot unload your registry class file. If you have a roaming
profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact your administrator.

DETAIL Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).

And this is probably not related, but after the same person looked in the
event viewer to rip the error info. for me and said they could not read
anything else afterward. In asking further, they said they tried to look at
the security errors, but nothing was there, and then after returning to the
apps. there was nothing in the right pane. I asked them to boot, and check
again. The apps. errors could be seen again; then they went to the security
pane and nothing and back to the apps. pane and nothing again.

Could, would someone be so kind as point me in the right direction.

thanks in advance,

don

I've had the same problem and I think I have narrowed it down to Group
Policies. This usually happens when I change the security on a file or
directory or update a users security policy. I haven't spent allot of time
on this because after another reboot it quits. There is some information on
this at http://www.**--****.com/

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS (thanks Neo)
 http://www.**--****.com/ ;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.

3.Event ID 1000 (Userenv) Error and Event ID 8021 (BROWSER) Error

Hi,

I've described this in other posts, but I have a network consisting of 2
Win2K Advanced Servers.

Machine A has 2 NICs, and one NIC is connected to my cablemodem/router,
while the other is connected to Machine B via a switch. Machine A is
just a member server, joined to my test domain, foo1.com. Machine A's
name is WEB.

Machine B is named "DATA", and it's the domain controller for domain
foo1.com, and also has DNS server running on it.

On Machine A, I am getting an error in the Application Event log, and a
warning in the System Event log:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Userenv
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	1000
Date: 2/29/2004
Time: 6:14:42 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer:	WEB
Description:
Windows cannot access the registry information at
\\foo1.com\sysvol\foo1.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol
with (53).

Event Type:	Warning
Event Source:	BROWSER
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	8021
Date: 2/29/2004
Time: 12:12:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer:	WEB
Description:
The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser
master \\DATA on the network
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{DD072267-53C5-42D8-9C23-0A9B943837CF}. The data is
the error code.
Data:
0000: 35 00 00 00 5...

The Userenv error is occurring about every 100 minutes or so.

I've mostly been working on trying to eliminate the Userenv error. So
far, I've tried switching the binding order of the NICs, and that didn't
fix the problem. From Machine A, I can use My Network Places, and
browse to the
\\foo1.com\sysvol\foo1.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol
without any problem.

I've even tried adding Everyone with Full Control to the sysvol
directory, and that didn't get rid of the problem, so I'm a bit puzzled
about why Machine A can't access it.

I'm not quite sure what to do about the BROWSER warning, but I kind of
have a feeling that it might be related.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Jim

5.Error appearing in the Event viewer (event id: 1058 & event id: 10

Dear all,

I would appreciate any help in diagnosing and resolving this error. Logged
in as an administrator on a windows xp sp2 laptop and the above errors appear
during the boot in the event viewer. I am logging on to the domain and I do
not receive any errors on-screen.

They say that they cannot access the group policy but I have checked that
the file exists and that I have access to the folder.

Any ideas or is there a better group to post in?
