  • 1. Multihomed machine
I have a 2003 Server (member - not a DC) that has two NICs in their own respective subnets. Everything seems to be fine I can ping to and from either subnet from different machines. However, the machine is not seeing the domain. It is a member of the domain ... but I can't bring up any tools that would normally see the domain for instance. When I log in it takes an inordinant amount of time ... unless I log in as local administrator. What am I overlooking?
  • 2. where are simple sources to learn about basic networking for small biz
I am a small biz owner that can't afford too much IT help. I have basic networking needs and I am fairly able to learn technical stuff. Can someone suggest some sources or classes or other means that I may educate my self on very basic networking, like sharing folders, using one machine as the hard drive for all 4 computers at the business
  • 3. Moving data from old domain to new domain in different forest
I've created a new domain in a new tree in a new forest. I want it to have nothing to do with the old domains which i am going to demote completely after I set up the new one. The new servers are currently isolated physically too...now to move people's data over to the new domain, how should i do it ? There's 4 servers in the new domain connected to a switch, and the old servers also have another switch...should i connect the 2 switches? How would i then move the files across forests, I dont want to have to set up trusts etc if possible. Also how are permissions affected? File system is NTFS in all cases. I'd want to get rid of the old permissions completely and set them up in the new system for the new user accounts and groups. Is it better to just copy all the data using a portable HDD or a DVD-ROM ?

When I click on START | SHUT DOWN. THe Shut Down Windows dialog appears and
the only option is to log of username. The workstations are on a server 2003
Network. Yesterday 3 systems had the problem . Today about 10 have the
problem.

These options are not disabled in any Local / Group Plocies
I have searched all over and can't find anything.

Anyb help would be appreaciated
Thanks
David
