  • 1. DHCP Client fails to obtain address
I have a SBS2000 network running. All of the Windows 2000 and Windows 98 clients successfully obtain addresses and renew properly. A Windows XP laptop which is used both here and on another network has stopped obtaining addresses from the server but will connect if configure with a static IP address. The same machine successfully obtains an address when on the other network (also SBS2000). We are attempting to add a new Windows SP Workstation on the network and it is also failing to obtain an address. The DHCP client is started on the client machines and the DHCP Server service is running on the server. Any ideas?
  • 2. Event ID 2504
The server could not bind to the transport The knowledge base has this error for NTsp5 and states the fix is to reinstall sp5! I've got this on a Windows 2000 laptop that was working, no problems, and developed this error today. No problems noted anywhere. Just happened to look for pop mail and then found it didn't connect. Can't even see nodes on my own network because the tcp/ip is seemingly corrupt. Any ideas on how to fix it without "reinstalling sp5" or sp4 and alllllll the other patches following??
  • 3. New W2k network - client can't get to internet 1st time?
We have a Win2000 server with WinXP Clients. We also have DSL. When we try to open IE6 for the first time each day, we get the IE timeout screen. When we hit refresh or just try again, it works fine. This happens on ALL the PCs. Any ideas? Thanks.
  • 4. Accessing shared files on W2k form W98
How do you access shared files on a computer running W2k from a machine running W98. When you go to network neighborhood It brings up the window for the resource is \\computer name\ipc$ then a place for the password. but when you put in the administrator password you still cannot connect.
  • 5. 2003 Server in subnet A can't join W2k domain with DCs in subnet B
I have a Windows 2000 AD domain with 2 DCs and about 50 member servers, which are all on the same IP subnet. This domain has been up and running for several months. The DCs provide DNS and WINS services throughout the domain. I am now trying to add another member server to the domain. This new server is a Windows 2003 server, and is located in a different IP subnet than the DCs for the W2k domain. When I try to add the new server to the domain, I recieve a message saying "there are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper." My research indicates that this could be due to a problem communicating with the RPC server. There is a firewall between these two IP subnets. However, I have had the firewall configured to open all RPC, kerberos, DNS, WINS, LDAP, SMB, and Netbios ports. I have verified that these ports are in fact open in the firewall, by opening a socket connection (telnetting) from the new server to the DCs across each of these listed ports. Also, I am confident that that name resolution is working, simply because I am able to ping the DCs by name from the new server. I'm at a total loss as to why I can't add this machine to the domain. I have an aching feeling that I've seen how to do this while studying for my MCSE, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm missing... Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Newbie having trouble configuring Windows 2K server to allow users to dial in

Postby shawn » Thu, 25 Dec 2003 01:11:26 GMT

Hello,

I am trying to configure a Windows 2000 Server
machine with a modem connected directly to it via a
parallel port to accept dial up connections. I have tried
configuring the incoming connections type in network and
dialup connections as well as Routing and Remote Access.
Everytime I try to dial in to the machine, it keeps
telling me that it cannot complete the connection. I am
using a win98 and a winXP home client machines to test
with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Shawn

hi,
You just enter the domain name of your Host Server, which
will be given by isp provider with your userid., Enter the
username like userid@<domain.net.us> then give your pwd.,

3.Users having trouble accessing file server

I have a Windows 2003 domain with a w2k file server. In the morning
only, after users in one specific security group login, they have
access to everything on the network they are suposed to have (e-mail,
internet, etc) except for the file server. After about 30 minutes,
they suddenly gain access to the file server, with no changes made.

I am not a windows server expert, should I be looking on a domain
controller for clues, the file server, each client machine? I doubt
the switch the users are connected to would be causing a problem (Cisco
3560 SMI, no layer 3 services enabled).

Any clues? Thanks in advance...
