  • 1. Migration from NT 4 to W2k print server
We recently replace our NT 4 print server with a W2K server. We migrate the printers to the new server and when we activated the server it was given the same name and IP address of the old one. We now have about 15 machine out of 200 that when they try to print to the printers that were previously installed they get the following error: "Function address 0x77fcb7ae caused a protection fault" I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printers, hacked them out of the registry, and reinstalled them. I still get the error. It is occurring on both NT 4 and W2K workstations. I have had some luck on the W2K boxes hacking them out of the registry, but no luck on the NT 4 boxes.

Hi Matt! Check the Print Spooler Service settings. Looks like your spooler stops after a certain time. You can restart it via the command "net start spooler". Regards Markus

Access 2.0 Printing

Postby Phil Slover » Thu, 09 Oct 2003 05:15:45 GMT

We have an HP printer attached to a Jet Direct box and
shared enterprise-wide. When we print from Word or Excel
using Windows 98 or Windows 2000, all is well. We have
an old application still in Access 2.0. When we print
from this application on Windows 2000, it pauses between
every page. We have tried on several different machines
with identical results. If we print it on a Windows 98
machine, it works fine.

Any ideas?

1.Inconsistent printing access on W2k3 print server and certain apps

Server: W2k3 SP1
Printer: Any network printer, but an HP4100 for example (TCP/IP)

Issue: In the last few days users seem to be able to print to network
printers from Windows (Test Page) and Word without issue. However other
applications like Excel, PowerPoint etc claim they cannot find a rpinter (and
will not find any network printer). Periodically it seems the problem stops
for some users but inevitably returns. Users can print to local printers
from these apps.

Steps tried:
Reboot all clients
Reboot print server
Reinstall printer driver on server
Stop/restart spool service

Unfortunately none of these seem to resolve the issue. Has anyone seen this
before? Any suggestions/assistance are appreciated.

2.Multiple problems accessing and printing from print server

3.Can't print or do the print preview in Access 2003

When I either click on the Print Preview or Print option in Files, nothing
happended. No print popup or any error message. Can someone help?
The option are not grayed out, still let me click on it, but no action. I am
using XP

4.Access Denied from Print Server when printing from internet

I am unable to set-up printing with a windows XP home
edition PC, only printing from the Internet. The PC can
print to the Micronet SP751 print server fine locally
(print server drivers are installed and port mappings
appear fine) but once I dial-in (56K modem with XP default
firewall enabled) I am unable to print from what so far
appears to be internet enabled applications e.g. Outlook
express, IE and other 3rd party apps, in particular
banking software.

I have changed settings so the print jobs spool before
printing and the jobs appear in the printer queue, the
print server then replies "Access denied". No other
network files will print until the print job is cancelled
and a local print is sent to the printer e.g. a word doc.

This is the only modem on the network so a work around is
not that desirable. In saying this there were no problems
what so ever when the printer was attached locally and
shared out to the network.

I have added the banking site in question to the zone
security settings in Trusted sites/security/internet
options and this has made no difference. Users are able to
copy and paste from the web and print using a local
application however this is not a desired outcome (im
dealing with users not tech's here).

If anyone knows of some obscure settings I may have missed
I would love to hear from you. HELP!

5.Printing to a wireless print server with Remote Access

I am using Remote Access to connect to my work computer.
I connect using a VPN connection.

I can see all my remote (office printers) but the only local printers
seen are those that are attached to my home computer. The problem is my
home laser printer is attached to the network wirelessly using a Linksys
wireless G print server. It has a local IP address of

Is it possible to set this up so I can print a document that I access
remotely to this printer?
