  • 1. Power users unable to install printer drivers
Members of the Power users group on my servers used to be able to install printer drivers. Now when they try, everything goes ok in the the Add printer wizard until they click on the Finish button. Then a message box saying "Printer driver was not installed. Access was denied" is displayed. This only happens when installing print queues which need new drivers, adding queues which use drivers that are already installed is fine. I've tried giving Power users full control on c:\winnt, c:\winnt\system32, c:\winnt\system32\spool and sub-folders. I've also set the registry value 'Addprinterdrivers' in key HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\ Providers\Lan man Print Services\Servers to 0, which I think allows any user to install drivers, but that made no difference. Administrators can install drivers, but there's a lot of servers and printers and not many admins, hence the use of the powers user group to allow non-admins to add the drivers. The servers are all W2k sp4 and use Software Update Services to keep patches up to date. I've run out of ideas. Can anyone offer any advise ? Thanks, M
  • 2. A comparable program to WinXP Pic and Fax Viewer for printing
Hi. I need a photo program that can do what the Windows Xp Picture and Fax viewer can do. I like that if you are in a directory of about 10 pictures, you select one to print, you get the option of "checking" or selecting the rest of the pictures in that directory and send them all to a windows printer at one time. Does anyone know of a program that I could load on a windows 2000 machine that has this ability? I wish you could download Win Pic and Fax for 2000 but you can't. Any suggestions on a third party program would be great. I have tried Photoshop, Ifranviewer, the worthless 2003 Office Picture Manager, and a few others. Thanks in advance for any help. dave

I am currently using a machine with win 2000 pro installed which has 3 printer installed on that machine and I am sharing the printers on the network. Everything works fine except networked users can't print multiple copies i.e. when networked users select to print mulitple copies of a document/file only one copy is printed. However on the locally (on the local) machine I can print multiple copies without any problems. Any help to why it is happening and possible cure would be extremely appreciated. Default printer keeps changing???

Postby Stacie » Wed, 20 Apr 2005 02:59:11 GMT

Users who log into a windows 2003 terminal server, every now and then their
default printer changes to another printer (we don't have any epson
printers). This is not very consistent but starting to annoy some users!
I've checked through google and ms knowledge base - has anyone come across
this annoying problem???

TIA
Stacie

Stacie,

Do you have printer redirection turned on?

I am having this same annoying problem. We have several workstation
that when they connect through terminal services they are launched int
a specific application. We have printer redirection turned off so whe
they print they all print to the default printer on the termina
server. All of the these workstations are fine with the exception o
one. This one workstation (doesnt' matter what user is logged in
randomly prints to different printers on the terminal server. I ha
double checked all the client settings and I cannot figure it out. I
your situation somewhat similar?

1.Default Printer Keeps Changing

The default printer on my 2000 server keeps changing.
This causes a problem because I am running scripts on the
server to print to the default printer. I cannot seem to
find out when the change occurs. I have downloaded the
latest driver and re-installed the printer with no luck.
No other users connect to this server it is used as an app
server.

Thank you for any ideas.

2.default printers keep changing

Hi I am running windows 2000 standard with about 40 users in a domain model.
All users use terminal services and also print from terminal services. The
printers are all either installed on the terminal server or are mapped from
the users local machine when the user logs in. The problem is that the
default printer is changing every morning regardless of what it was set to
the day before. Users authenticate from the active directory on a seperate
server.

3.Default Printer keeps changing in TS profiles.

My users set their default printer in their TS profile. Then the next time
they log in it has changed. Sometimes it will change with a different
application startup.

It typically resets to a remote site printer I have.

How do I get it to stop changing user profile default printers?

I am running Windows Terminal Server 2000 and Windows XP sp2 on the
workstations.

4.Default Printer keeps changing.

We are running Windows 2003 Terminal services.
We have several IP networked printers setup on the Terminal server itself,
with security set on each so that only certain printers show up for certain
users when they log on. Some of our users complain that their default
printer keeps getting changed to the Faxmaker printer, the one with the last
letter in the alphabet. These users don't log on from home, and our servers
are setup to restart every night. Any idea's?

5.default printer keeps changing

Hi

I have several users using TS to connect to another site. I am having
problems with the default printers changing for some users. When the users
log on for the first time they select a printer as the default printer, they
log off and back on and the default printer changes to a different printer.
The printers are installed via a log on script, and the client local printers
are also installed on their session. I cannot add on the script the line that
sets a default printer, objPrinter.SetDefaultPrinter
\\ServerName\PrinterName,since I have several users and they use different
printers as their default. Any suggestion on how to make sure that once a
default printer is selected by the user it remains when the user reconnects.

Thanks
Max
