What is the procedure for getting win 2000 to recognize more than 2 IDE/ESDI devices. I have added a PCI card and the software for running it I understand from the on line help that it is a MS-DOS fix in the registery but cant find what it is. Thanks Johnpk
  • 3. Favorites
I run W2KP-SP4 on this client and W2KS-SP4 on the PDC. I have been trying to figure out how to speedup roaming profile logons over a wireless LAN. I have succeeded in mapping HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Explorer\User Shell Folders\Application Data to an accessible folder on the PDC. Together with enabling the Exclude Directories in Roaming Profile policy and adding Application Data to the default list of excluded folders my roaming profile logon time is down to ~2 minutes. But I wanted more speed, so I tried to map the profile's Favorites folder. This is where my troubles began. I found that when I logged on as the user in question the Favorites folder had been moved to C:\WINNT\Favorites and the favorites were missing. Since then I have tried to return to the conditions before I mapped the Favorites folder. Here is what I have discovered: The original Favorites key configuration was Key - Favorites Data Type - REG_EXPAND_SZ Value - %USERPROFILE%\Favorites Now the Favorites key configuration is Key - Favorites Data Type - REG_SZ Value - C:\WINNT\Favorites I don't know how to correct this condition. I would really appreciate some help on this. I would also appreciate a pointer to a good reference that explains why the Favorites folder can/cannot be mapped. zoom61

getting profiles.001, profile.002 & registry size growth...

Postby Paul T. » Thu, 05 Feb 2004 01:56:39 GMT

This is occuring on ALL 6 Win2k systems (with srvpk3) that
we have:

I've seen the articles that claim the profile problem is
relative to Terminal Services issues (817171, 285923,
185198, 271213, 246936, & 124594...). However, our SysAdm
cliams that he is not using terminal services, but Altiris
RapiDeploy to remote to these machines.

Does anyone know if the Altiris RapiDeploy program
has "wrappers" around terminal services or some other
issues?
What else could be causing the occurences of the extra
profile creation?

Thanks for any and all help!
