  • 2. audio codecs with multimedia board
Hi, as written in Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 thread I have problems listening to tv and FM radio analog channels, audio is bad and jerky. I would like to check what software is involved in the audio processing, as the same problem does not happen with digital tv and radio channels. I see I can use gspot ffshow and a lot of codec- related tools fon my xp x64 but all seem oriented at multimedia avi- wav files, how can I analyze the the audio data stream from the pci board and drivers? Note that that board has no audio cable, all the video and audio data flows through pci and is filtered and decoded by software. I had a similar bad-audio experience when I installed ffshow filters for x64, but to be sure I should be able to switch the decoding software to see if anything changes. Thank you.

If you click on the plus sign does it open a sub item? Is this sub item
selectable? If so, check it and then continue.

Uninstall HP Update, it is one of those useless bloatware items HP loads on
it's computers and includes with it's printers.

Assuming the unknown HP product is a printer try going here:

and than to the drivers and software for your specific printer.

Depending on what version of printer drivers you have, you may have better
luck running the HP Update directly vice via the notification message. Look
in Programs, HP or in HP Solutions, Help, Check for Updates to run the
update application.

I will try that to check the update. and I will seriously consider
uninstalling the hp update. I'm still getting used to this Win7 computer
and haven't been to the control panel yet... charlie

I would only consider removing HP Update if you intend to check HP on
your own for the necessary updates. 1. Theres no reason to righ click
on the Update, just click & it will do the rest for you, it usually
will require you to reboot! Try re-starting the PC & see what happens?
Also, you Internet Security Software may be stopping it from
installing? Have you checked those setting?

1.HP Update block

There is a block that pops up and asks if I would like HP Update to check
for Software and Driver
updates. However the block is only 1/2 the size is should be therefore I'm
not able to respond yes or no.
Anyone have an idea?

2.Hp updates/Problems with Nero & Roxio

Ok, bear with me because this one's a lou-ie....and it may not be Vista's
problem....but I can't say for sure,
and I should say upfront that this may take several back and forth's on
messaging to iron it out, so stick with me please
if you can...

I'm on Vista Home Premium 32-Bit - I had upgraded from XP sp2 MCE on this HP
Media pavilion desktop.
And this upgrade has been very stable - I seemed to get the drivers right,
so why worry, right?

Well I stuck in the HP Vista Upgrade Assistant DVD, which you ARE supposed
to do after the upgrade.
Even though I had already done all the Vista drivers manually from the HP
site, I thought maybe the HP DVD
might iron a few more things out. Bad idea.

Well, I find out after running the DVD that it installed all these Roxio
programs which I swear were not there,
not even in my default programs out of the box. It must have been some kind
of "Vista Surprise" planned
by HP and Roxio. Keep in mind that I had already had Nero installed
and it was working fine as far as I know.

So I proceed to uninstall Roxio and stuff about the DMA Checker comes up -
"Chose whether to turn the DMA Checker off and restart it later or
to leave it going and do a reboot" I choose to turn the DMA Checker off.
Then when I restart, my PC tells me that the DMA Checker is missing. I have
no idea how to turn it back on.

Then I find that my Nero program, which I think was running fine,
won't open. Not only that, I can't do a repair on Nero -- Add/Remove says
there is a Apps/local file missing.
I tried repairing Nero with a CD of the program and no luck. And also, this
is the kicker....Add/Remove WON'T let me Un-Install Nero !!!
Here, I get a red X window that says "Shellmanager database file is corrupt
or missing"

I have tried 4 different System Restores - going to back before running the
HP DVD and other time spots - which all seemed to work ok, but I still could
not get into the Nero Program or get Nero to start. I double click the Nero
icon and nothing happens. Maybe I should just redownload it and install it
on top of what I have here now, but that seems kind of a shakey approach.

I also tried uninstalling Nero in safe mode and a window came up and said
that my Windows Installer is not available there.

I appreciate any help and I apologize for the long post - I hope I explained
all this somewhat clearly....Frank

4.WMC2005 HP Update really any better?

Hey, I was wondering if the HP update for the media center 2005 is really any
better than the 2004 version? I dont have a second video card so that wouldnt
make a difference and i saw that it took off a few features and some parts
were choppy after installing the new update. Also, is it possible to just go
out and buy a second video card, install it, and then have the 2005 version
work with it? Thanks
