  • 1. SQL2000 and Athlon 64bit
Hello guys, I need to install SQL server on a Windows 2003 server machine (64bit) This server has an Athlon 64Bit processor on it. I looked into the x64 version of SQL2000 Enterprise and Developer edition, but I wasn't able to install them because they run on the Intel Itanium Processors, but not Athlon X64. I also tried installing the SQL2000 Developer on this server, but I kept getting a message telling me that the install is not for this machine type. I'm wondering if there is a "get around" to get SQL2000 to install on a machine that uses Athlon X64. Isn't SQL 2000 Service Pack 4 is designed to make SQL run faster on an x64 machine? so there has to be a way to get SQL2000 to install, unless they're referring to Itanium ONLY when they talk about 64bit platforms. Thanks for any help.
  • 2. installing Win2k3 server 32-bit on IA64?
I came into possession of an Intel 64-bit server, but I don't have Windows Server 2003 64-bit version. Could I go ahead and install Windows 2003 Server Standard (the old 32-bit version) on this hardware and will it still run reliably? (Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I really don't have much experience with these 64-bit CPUs.)
  • 3. Installing full version over existing trial version
Hi, I have installed the trial version of the 64bit XP on my Dell PowerEdge 2800 Server. It runs fine (looking forward to get more 64 bit software+drivers though...), so I have purchased a full version of the x64. Do I need to reinstall everything (reformat drives etc.), or is there a smarter way to keep this installation running indefinitely (by typing in my new serial# or something)? -- Lars Munkedal Copenhagen, Denmark
  • 4. Internet access
I am tryinh to setup my connection to ADSL via earthnet, as there are no 64 bit drivers for the USB. Netowrk connections in control panel advised connection, however from CMD prompt after typing: ipconfig It just returns to c:\prompt with no information. Anyone else had this problem & how did you fix it. Thanks in advance Rocket
  • 5. howto detect X64 memory problems
Starting my PC this morning I got following error message: ... file corrupt or unavailable: system32/ntkernel.. .. please reinstall ... My first thought, a HD crash or a virus. Trying to start a system recovery from CD I got following error message: .. file systemd.dll not found ... Well then? I was at a loss! Luckily for me I downloaded a Linux security CD a few month ago. After booting from this CD I got following simple message (from memtest): ... memory error .. Aha, some tests later i found out 1GB ram was corrupt. Memory errors shouldn't be to complicated to detect. Why are there so incorrect messages in XP X64? After this nice start into weekend i have three advices: 1.Install Linux an a second partition or bootable CD. 2.Don't by cheap memory 3.In my opinion Microsoft should rename XP X64 ROFESSIONAL Ernst
