I have following situation: 2003 enterprise SP1 connected to 5 disks (2X300Gb, 2X30Gb, 1Gb) on an IBM SAN. (IBM controller type DS4700) I can format and use these disks so far no problem. When I try to align the partitions with diskpart with folowing commands: select disk 1 clean create partition primary align=64 After about 1 minute I get an error: "The disk management services could not complete the operation" - VDS service is running and starting automatically - No errors in event logs Can anyone suggest something to get these partitions aligned?
  • 2. Newbie in the Windows Cluster
Hi, I am trying to find if the windows server 2003 provide the support for application failover rather than the node failover? I would like to switch to another node in the cluster if the application stops responding or killed. I understand that the node failures are being handled by the microsoft windows server 2003 enterprise edition. If the application failover is supported, then do we need to build any thing in the application to enable this feature? What are the steps required to register the application to enable the failover when the node is still active? I understand that Windows server standard edition is not compatible for this clustering technology. Does the cluster concept comes pacakged with the enterprise edition without any separate licence? Your answers are highly appreciated? Regards, Syam
  • 3. 2 node cluster with IDE disk quorum?
What I'm trying to do is set up a stand alone cluster to play with. It has *no* network connection to our main LAN and is on its own stand alone network switch. I am trying to setup this cluster as a *purely* "play with it & break it" setup, and since clustering hardware is expensive, does anyone know of any way to set up a two node Windows 2000 cluster but without using a common SCSI disc connected to both nodes to host the quorum? I have two PCs, each PC has its IDE disk partitioned identically into C: 20GB and D: 10GB and E: 10GB. I was hoping to use one partition on one of the disks to hold the quorum. I can set up a single node cluster with -localquorum switch, but I really need to be able to do failover/failback ability. Any thoughts welcome.

Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2003 Cluster with two nodes. I needed restart the
second node for maintenance, after that the Cluster Service on second node
stop ... The first node it's ok.

I tried "Evict Node" and join again, but when the setup try to start cluster
service I receive the following error:

Error 0x8007042b: The process terminated unexpectedly.

I read the KB 890761 and I installed the special fix, but its doesn't work.
I not applied any security templates, I not changed the password of cluster
admin account ...

There aren't much articles about it. Does anyone has any suggestion ?

thanks,
Rubens

Hi Rubens,

Please ensure that the Cluster Service Account (CSA) for the domain has the
following Local Policy User Rights mentioned in the article below:

How to Manually Re-Create the Cluster Service Account

I had similar issue once that the same error would continue to occur until
the CSA password was to greater than 15 characters. Can you give this a
try?

828861 Cluster service account password must be set to 15 or more
characters if

Another thing you can check would be in the registry the
LMCompatibilityLevel on both of these nodes match up to what is set on the
DC.

I received error code 0x8007042B while trying to install the .NET framework

installed). I can't find anything in the Knowledge Base or elsewhere that

I come to update Media Player 11 and i get the download from the site no
problem however the application will not install and gives the error message

This error message had very little information on the MS site and other than
some techy jargon giving a very brief unrelated explanation of the error

Would appreciate some advice on where to go next with this.

5.Server Error: Error 2 opening registry key.. error

Running Windows 2000 server, Frontpage extensions 2000 upgraded 20
extensions 2002.
When I try to publish a page from a different computer using FP 2000 client
to one of the sites hosted by the server, I get the error below:
Server Error: Error 2 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared
Tools\Web Server Extensions\Ports\Port 80"

I checked the server, a server hosting different sites, and looked at that
registry key and found many entries under 'Ports' which looked like:
Port /LM/W3SVC/xxx: where xxx is a number.

I couldn't find an entry named 'Port 80'. I am not sure if this means it's
for the default website. Anyways, why am I getting this error?
