We had a bad system closedown at the weekend when a UPS failed. I rebooted the system and then did a repair on the exchange database which was refusing to mount. All is now ok and everything seems to be working ok EXCEPT for one user. Her incoming e-mail seems to be stuck in the local queue. All other incoming and outgoing mail is fine. I've tried everything, including KB918522. Any suggestions? Graham

ERD

Postby RG9u » Fri, 29 Oct 2004 08:33:01 GMT

Hello,
Can we still create ERD for Windows server 2003 standard edition? I went to
system tools->backup and tried to create ERD like in 2000 server, but I
didn't see it there. Does anybody know where?
Thanks

Nope, the ERD is not avaible, being replaced (?) by the Automated System
Recoveryt (ASR).

Following techrepublic link below I read "Windows backup tool does not have a
native provision for transactional systems such Exchange Server and SQL
Server" but I had read on the Microsoft site under Backup FAQs that in 2003
server (as apposed to 2000 server) that it did - can anyone clarify? Thanks

Exchange yes, SQL no....in SBS 2003.

For SQL, use Enterprise manager to schedule an SQL data export/backup to
disk in a location that is recorded in the NTBackup process.

1.ERD Disks

Is there a way to redirect the creation of an ERD to
another machine? For example, I've got some servers in the
UK that I can manage from my location in the US. I'd like
to create ERD's for those machines, but save the info to a
file or floppy at my location. When I've tried this
operation on machines at my location using Terminal
Services, if I don't insert a floppy disk at the prompt,
the ERD creation wizard exits. Any suggestions?

2.Automated Win2k ERD from the Scheduler

I'm trying to figure out how to create a batch file that
will allow me to run a weekly job in the scheduler that
will run an unattended job to create an ERD in Windows
2000/2003. It wasn't a problem in NT with Rdisk, but now
that I have to use ntbackup, I'm having a problem. I
thought I had it when I did a system state backup to disk,
but now a realize that's not everything I need. Below are
the two files I'm working with, any help would obviously
be appreciated!!!

to do the floppy/ERD part.
