Using WSUS 3.0 RC1 and group policy to manage windows updates. I have had some trouble with not all computer reporting their status with the WSUS server. Most computers dont report at all until i run this script: SC sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU) regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll regsvr32 /s wups.dll regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll regsvr32 /s msxml3.dll net start wuauserv wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow Once i have run this script on a computer the client will appear in the console. The problem is that to run this script you need to be a Local Administrator, most people are not local administrators for security reasons. Does anyone know of a fix for this type of problem? Also do you need to be a local admin to install the updates? If yes then how do people get around this because im sure that most clients are restricted uses.. thanks

I've got a batch of PC's that are seriously behind in their patching. Is there a quick way to get them all back up to date without the user needing to be logged on? I'd ideally like to be able to just leave them on over a weekend and have them ready to go on Monday. Thanks,

You should decline the KB836528 update ("Mydoom, Zindos, and Doomjuice
Worm Removal Tool"), as it is superseded and replaced by the
"Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool", KB890830. To see
KB890830 on your WSUS server, you need to have WSUS configured to sync
the classification "Update Rollups".

Note that the worm removal tools will not show up in the add/remove
program list, as it doesn't actually install anything.

When a WSUS client installs the KB890830 worm removal tool, you will
get a "Installed" status for that update on that computer in the WSUS
console though.

Thanks Torgeir,

Is KB890830 classified as critical or security update? I have configured
the wsus server to update any critical/security update from MS update
site. Isn't it that it should be available in the server without the
update rollups option enabled?

Hi,

Sorry, as I wrote, KB890830 is classified under "Update Rollups", so
if you only have selected the critical and security update
classifications, you will not see KB890830.

1.when an update is installed/some installed updates doesn't show as installed

Hi,

Is there anyway I can find out when an update is installed on any
particular machine from the wsus console?

WSUS console showed that few machines need this critical update (KB
836528, worm removal tool, classified as critical update)few days ago. I
checked the console yesterday and it showed that these machines don't
have this update in their needed list. I assume WSUS has installed it
onto the machines. However, when I checked the wsus console, I can't
find this update in the installed list of these machines. I also can't
find it from the add/remove program list (both W2k and XP pro) from the
machines themself. Can anyone advice what is happening?

Thanks

5.After installing Microsoft Update I am unable to update

I get this error after MU searchs for update.

Refresh the page.
In Internet Explorer, delete your Temporary Internet Files by going to the
Tools menu and clicking Internet Options.
Close and then re-open Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer (Add-ons Disabled) mode only prevents the use of ActiveX
