Hi. Is there a way to allow users to log into their home PC via remote desktop, but only if they have previously logged onto that machine? In other words, if they previously have a session open they can connect, if they don't they can't login.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good articles that explain how to lock down terminal services? I'm setting up a user so that they can remote in to our server but I only want them to be able to access a few locally installed programs. Other than that, I don't want them to be able to access anything else like Administrative Tools etc. Thanks in advance!

I am working here with Terminal Server 2003 and have the following problem. Sometimes after I have remotely controlled a session the session has turned black when the user gets back to his session.
  • 4. No Printer showing up for a TS user on new WS
I replaced a workstation on my network and the user does not see ANY printers when she logs in. All users launch RDP to connect via TS to our financial software. I know that TS is picky about print drivers so I try to stick with HP LaserJets that are compliant. This user has made this connection for some time and has always seen her two printers: an OKI Data MicroLine and an HP LaserJet 2020P. For some reason, no printers are showing up at all! Any suggestions! P.S. I just had the user login to a different machine and the printers showed up. Thanks!

Default printer keeps changing

Postby TWF4IFNvdWxsYXJk » Fri, 18 Nov 2005 21:22:03 GMT

Hi

I have several users using TS to connect to another site. I am having
problems with the default printers changing for some users. When the users
log on for the first time they select a printer as the default printer, they
log off and back on and the default printer changes to a different printer.
The printers are installed via a log on script, and the client local printers
are also installed on their session. I cannot add on the script the line that
sets a default printer, objPrinter.SetDefaultPrinter
\\ServerName\PrinterName,since I have several users and they use different
printers as their default. Any suggestion on how to make sure that once a
default printer is selected by the user it remains when the user reconnects.

Thanks
Max

default printer keeps changing

Postby Lenny » Tue, 19 Feb 2008 07:04:39 GMT

Hi,
One of my users logs on via remote desktop but the default printer in the
printer list keeps changing. I am able to change it back again but seem to
have to do this everyday. At the moment the default seems to stay whilst
logged on but changes after logging off. Not sure why this would be the case
as the user is on a LAN with 20 other users and it is stable. Nobody else
has ever had this problem.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lenny

Hi,
Can you check if the user who is encountering the problem has local printers
installed?

Thx. Alice

1.Default Printer Keeps Changing

The default printer on my 2000 server keeps changing.
This causes a problem because I am running scripts on the
server to print to the default printer. I cannot seem to
find out when the change occurs. I have downloaded the
latest driver and re-installed the printer with no luck.
No other users connect to this server it is used as an app
server.

Thank you for any ideas.

2.Default printer keeps changing???

Users who log into a windows 2003 terminal server, every now and then their
default printer changes to another printer (we don't have any epson
printers). This is not very consistent but starting to annoy some users!
I've checked through google and ms knowledge base - has anyone come across
this annoying problem???

3.default printers keep changing

Hi I am running windows 2000 standard with about 40 users in a domain model.
All users use terminal services and also print from terminal services. The
printers are all either installed on the terminal server or are mapped from
the users local machine when the user logs in. The problem is that the
default printer is changing every morning regardless of what it was set to
the day before. Users authenticate from the active directory on a seperate
server.

4.Default Printer keeps changing in TS profiles.

My users set their default printer in their TS profile. Then the next time
they log in it has changed. Sometimes it will change with a different
application startup.

It typically resets to a remote site printer I have.

How do I get it to stop changing user profile default printers?

I am running Windows Terminal Server 2000 and Windows XP sp2 on the
workstations.

5.Default Printer keeps changing.

We are running Windows 2003 Terminal services.
We have several IP networked printers setup on the Terminal server itself,
with security set on each so that only certain printers show up for certain
users when they log on. Some of our users complain that their default
printer keeps getting changed to the Faxmaker printer, the one with the last
letter in the alphabet. These users don't log on from home, and our servers
are setup to restart every night. Any idea's?
