  • 1. admin permissions
OK - New laptop and new operating system. Be patient please. I have logged myself in as "Owner". Evidently it IS an administrator position, so there is no issue there [hopefully]. The issue is, that in trying to update some programs or perform some tasks, I get an intercept that tells me that I have to have "administrator permission to perform that task". It's probably something very simple that I'm missing, but can't seem to cure it - Any suggestions? -- The Trade Show Marketing Guy

  • 3. Passwords not working in Vista Business
I di da clean install of Vista business, keeping my XP Pro intact on a separate drive and glad I did. I do a lot of ordering of products from suppliers like Ingram Micro, once Vista was up and running I could not log into Ingram's web site any more using Vista, I booted back into my XP pro drive and no problem, I ran into the same issue with other suppliers, support says Vista is the issue and other s say IE 7. I had problems with IE 7 when I installed it on my XP drive, and removed it and had to run repair on OS before it became stable enough to use again. So what is causing this, Vista or IE 7. I also notice the CAP might be on, but I only get lower case letters, and vice a versa. We have to use Vista for supporting it but to me Vista is just ME version 2.2 XP was the best I have ever used from MS, sorry to see it go. -- Smile, Look dumb, and Act like you love it.....
  • 4. Not allowed to save downloads as administrator
I have encountered something multiple times that I think is ridiculous and cannot believe it is happening. Someone has had to have encountered this and there must be some resolution. Recently I have tried to download plugins for Firefox and save them to the plugins directory. Vista will not allow me to save them in that directory and is telling me I "...don't have permission to save in this location Contact the administrator to obtain permission." As Vista will gladly tell me when looking at the users setup in the software, I am the only user and also the administrator. Therefore, there is absolutely no logical reason for me to get this message. If you have encountered this and determined how to allow Vista to permit the administrator to save files to any directory, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi
Standard users can see and access my desktop files but I am the
administrator. Should this be the case. If not, does anybody know what I can
I do to prevent them from accessing my files?
Many thanks,
Mike.

Try this:

-Go to the folder that is being shared by users and Stop Sharing

-Example: C:\Users\username

-Right click Desktop folder

-Desktop Properties

-Sharing

-Choose Stop sharing

1.standard users can see administrators desktop files when uac i

Hey Oscar,
Thanks for that. Tried it and it works well. It appears the security on my
user files was gave others permission (family pc) to access my files. I've
used right-click and re-configured security permissions and it works fine. I
think I may have tried to access my files from their user name (logged in as
standard user) at one stage. When asked for permission to view the folder I
gave in my password and got through. I thought this would be a once off
situation, and if that user tried again they would be asked for
permission/password again. Is this not the case ie. does vista simply
remember the request and not ask for permission again next time an attempt is
made to access this folder?
Appreciate yr support here.

2.standard user can see admin files after UAC asked for password

I have vista business edition (up to date) and here's my problem; There's 2
standard user account and 1 administrator account.

While being on a standard user account, I entered the admin password to get
pass the User account control pop-up. However from now on, the standard
account now have full access to all files and folders for any account! How do
I fix this problem? I want every account being private.

PS: I tried changing admin password, no results. Only creating new standard
account fix the problem but it is annoying. Please help! Thank you.

3.UAC prompt for username password though i am administrator

Hi,

I have been running Vista Business edition for the best part of a year
now, and though there have been some quirks i am happy with it as a
developer platform.

Last monday though it started behaving rather strangely. I might be
wrong but i think it was after a reboot demanded by Vista after
applying some patch that it started:

When UAC prompts for elevated privileges i used to get a dialog if i
wanted to continue or cancel, but now i have to type in my credentials
to continue every time -rather annoying to say the least!

I double cheked that my user is still in the administrator group, and
also the credentials i provide to get elevated privileges are the same
that i use to login to the box.

what could cause this and how do i get Vista to recognize that i am
indeed admin?

4.Install Office in Vista Standard User or Administrator?

It seems like this should be an easy question, but I can't find it anywhere.

I have Vista Home Premium and I need to install Office Enterprise 2007.
Should I install it as the system administrator or in my standard user
account? I would like to make sure it is available for the other standard
accounts on my computer.

5.Administrator Desktop and UAC

I have several desktops one for myself, one for administrator (myself), and
one for family members.

I can open all the desktops (no passwords) with no problems. The
administrator desktop (password protected) started having problems a few days
ago, now I cannot open it, once I enter the p/w it goes to a blue screen and
acts like it is running but after a few seconds the screen goes blank and all
you see is the cursor.

The only way I can get to the desktop is cntl + alt + del and log off which
takes me back to the User Desktop screen, I open my desktop and use
ontrol Paneland go to urn User Account Control On or Offand deselect
it, Reboot and then I can open the Administrator Desktop.

Any answers on what happen and how to fix it? Thanks.
