unable to connect as standard user but Ok as administrator
by YWxleA » Thu, 07 Feb 2008 14:07:02 GMT
I am running Vista Business and was having no problems using a mobile
broadband USB modem until last week when I stopped being able to connect when
using a standard login, but can still connect when logged in as
administrator. User Account Control is switched off.
Have replaced the modem, uninstalled and reinstalled the software/drivers,
etc etc but it seems to be a Vista problem rather than being related to
either the modem or the ISP software.
Nobody from my ISP, computer manufacturer, or modem manufacturer has any
idea how to fix the problem.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

YES! Thanks so much. I had been advised to turn off UAC to "fix" another
problem - having a "Wireless Switch Setting Utility" box pop up and ask for
Administrator permission... but 'm much happier to put up with the minor
annoyance of that, now that I can get connected again!

Hi,
Glad it's working and UAC pop-up's are a minor annoyance, but no where near
the annoyance you have just witnessed by turning it off. A lot went into the
devolvement of UAC and it's there for your protection, leave it on. I'll add
your problem to my notes of the ramifications of turning it off can and will
cause. Thanks for posting back.

1.Install Office in Vista Standard User or Administrator?
It seems like this should be an easy question, but I can't find it anywhere.
I have Vista Home Premium and I need to install Office Enterprise 2007.
Should I install it as the system administrator or in my standard user
account? I would like to make sure it is available for the other standard
accounts on my computer.
2.VPN Server - AD users OK - NT Users not OK
Hi there,
I've got a new VPN Server (Windows 2003 R2) with routing and remote access
set up.
It's all standard. It works fine for Active Directory Users.
It does not work for NT users. It always states Error 691 user and/or
password invalid (it is correct).
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
3.Administrator account locked other users ok
Hi there
I find that my admin account (as i have acitvated parental controls) wont

I don't have the back up option of resetting password as didn't realise
until I was locked out that this was necessary to have as a back up.

4.Unable to connected to shared printer in Vista, XP works ok
I have a print server in an Active Directory environment. I had
successfully added printers to all of the workstations in our
department both XP and Vista. This week; however, we are not able to
print from any of our Vista workstations. I have rolled back all MS
Updates for the server and the Vista workstations to no avail. This
was working last week. Below is the error I receive when attempting to
connect to one of the shared printers on the server.
Windows cannot connect to the printer.
Operation could not be completed (error
0x0000003).
Any insight or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

5.no print as user, OK as administrator
Have two printers (Brother MFC-8220 and Konica Minolta 2300 DL), both USB to
HP notebook (Vista Home Premium), with similar problem. Work fine as
administrator but the Brother prints a blank sheet (Konica gets no response)
when trying as a user. HP, Brother, and Konica can not figure it out. Older
printers (like Brother 5100 and others have no problem from user side).
Thanks for your help (I need a printer)!
