I am trying to start a new method of using my computer and am not going to run my profile as an Admin account. I am used to Linux and having to use SU or SUDO, so this should not be much different. I am running into the same problem that pushed me away from this model before. I did a fresh install of a laptop, ran all Vista Home Premium updates, created a standard account, logged into the standard account, selected an exe on my C:, right clicked and selected "Run as Administrator" and I get this message *"Windows can not access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."* This error seems familiar as I tried this before and had the same problem. This pushed me into using an account that had elevated Admin privileges all the time (bad idea for someone who uses the internet and installs a lot of programs). What is the deal and how can I fix it? -- tankman1989

Any idea how one logs in to the administrator account in Win Vista (Beta 2)? I created a password for the built-in administrator account during the Win Vista installation. Afterwards I created a user account and gave it admin privilege and began using that account. Subsequently, however, I wanted to logon as the built in administrator account (i.e., with the username "administrator"). Try as a might, however, I can't seem to find a login screen that allows me to enter the username of "administrator". Any ideas? Thanx -- -Tim R. - 2. Password not accepted after idle-time lockout
My password works just fine when the computer boots up, but if the computer locks down after idle-time, the system won't accept the very same password. I have also noticed that the password reset tool will not work because it says that I am entering an invalid password or username. I have noticed other people are having the same problem. When I boot up the computer my password works just fine. I get into Vista and my desktop loads. However, when the computer locks because of inactivity, the system will not recognize my password. I noticed there are way too many programs listed for my liking. Under XP you could go to Documents and Settings/User/Program/Start and create new folders and move stuff into them. However I cannot find where they are located in Vista . Thx.. - 5. Classic login.
Is there a way of getting a clasic login box with a drop down domain / local PC list. I think having to type localPC\localuser is NOT an improvement.

I have installed Office 2007 Beta 2 and have been running it without problem for a while. Suddenly trying to load any office application results in a message saying "Microsoft Office <program name> has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install this application". 3.Regular Run As... option (not Run As Administrator)
I have Vista Business. When I shift+Righ Click an item, I can see the Run
As... option, but when I click on it, UAC asks for my consent, but I do not
get the prompt to enter the user credentials to actually Run the program as.
("Run As..." is different from "Run As Administrator"). I need to run some
things not just as a local machine administrator rights, but as a totally
different user (for instance if I had to run certain programs as a different
AD account).
How can I get back the regular Run As... command back so that it will prompt

4.Scheduler does not run batch file and can't run as an administrator
I have a batch file that has a series of xcopy commands in it that runs fine interactively (just double click on the file in Windows), but not in the scheduler (set to run as an administrator). It instantly quits. You can see the DOS box for a fraction of a second, then it disapears. The result code is (0X1). If I run it interactively "as an administrator" (right click on the filename /run as an administrator) I get the same type of result, the DOS box comes up and disappears instantly. I put a "pause" statement in the first line of the batch file, but the DOS box still just flashes on the screen and disappears. Can anyone tell me what is going on? -- eganders
