  • 1. Laptop fan control
On my Acer laptop (which I recently bought together with Vista Premium) when I go out of standby the fan doesn't stop running at max speed. It doesn't make sense that, being power settings at min level, during normal operation it just switch on once in a while (and not even at max speed, judging from its noise); and as soon as it wakes up it's impossible that it needs cooling down anything hot. I wonder whether this is a buggy Vista driver rather than a poor hardware design behavior, for which Acer would be responsible instead. In the first case I would ask for suggestions on how to switch fan off without rebooting the system each time (making standby feature useless). Thanks a lot, Ricardo
  • 2. HP Raid 1 ML Series
Hello I'm completely inexperienced using Raid 1 on HP ML110 G3. I did follow HP's instructions on BIOS setting IDE to Raid. And then pressing F8 to configuring Raid 1. That was 'successful'. Upon boot these messages paint upon the screen: HP Embedded SATA RAID controller B2067 Press F8 Loading Configuration Port #00 149 GB Healthy Port #01 149 GB Healthy Array #0 Raid - 1 Raid 1 (Mirror) 148.88 GB Optimal 1 Logical Device(s) found Bios Found Windows 2000 Server initiates. Comment : Because of no usb boot support and no floppy drive I needed to create an ISO disk using Nlight to install Windows Server 2000. I don't know how to use Raid 1. With Admin Tools Under Disk Management I see only C: 148.88GB NTFS. I don't see the second drive. I download HP Storage Manager. This application reveals nothing that appears familiar. I do know that Raid 1 Mirror is installed, configured; but, I don't know how Raid 1 is functioning, working, how to interface with Raid. I don't know how to detect if I will have a drive failure ; and if there is a drive failure ; I'm needing advise what to do with Raid. Is there an application I should download that would allow user interaction, interfacing? Should I consider using Norton Ghost to duplicate, and protect the data? Thanks for any thoughts on this topic. John Marshall

Drive acts as DVD drive for cd and CD Drive for dvd off and on

Postby UmVpNzY » Thu, 03 Apr 2008 02:42:02 GMT

My disk drive says all my drivers are up to date, so that's not the problem.
I have a brand new Toshiba satellite notebook and I'm running Vista Home
Premium. Every so often when I put in a cd-rw to copy some files, only the D:
drive - the DVD burner shows and it formats as a DVD. Vice versa with the
DVD-RW: it shows only the E: drive - the CD-RW drive. I can't figure out how
to tell this computer which media it's supposed to be recognizing. Can
someone help??

2.DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explor

Andy,

Thanks, but it didn't work. I deleted the E: and G: drives as instructed
and rebooted. However, the G: drive came back.

3.DVD-RW Drive Shows up as DVD-RW and CD-Drive in Windows Explorer

I have a weird situation going on with my DVD-RW drive. I have a Sony
DRU-710A DVD-RW drive installed on my machine with no other optical drives
installed. For the last couple of weeks, the drive has been showing up twice
in Windows Explorer with two different drive letters. It shows up as drive
as a DVD-RW (Drive E:) and as a CD-ROM (Drive G:).

I have made sure that I am running the latest firmware version of the drive
and I have not made any changes to the system or installed any new software.
Sony's support could not provide any useful information.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this issue? I am running
Windows XP Home with SP2 installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
